Let's see what kind of year Jeffcoat has. He was tied for 3rd in the nation in sacks and was the big 12 defensive player of the year and an all american. You can't get more draft ready than that. It seems crazy that he wasn't drafted but maybe it's because he is undersized. At least he can go play in a good defense in Seattle. Can't say that any other longhorn deserved to be drafted.
When Bama played UT in 09 there was talent all over the place. What the hell happened? Did Mack stop recruiting? Did the team just misjudge the talent level of the kids they did recruit? Did they just not develop the talent they had?
Jeffcoat's lineage and talent should have netted him a draft grade of no lower than the 3rd round if he was developed properly. There's a lot lacking in his game, and he should be a lot further tapped into his abilities where you can at least see what he could become. Mack has been a horrible talent evaluator and developer for years now. It's just sad it came crashing down so dramatically. I think Jeffcoat can become a rotational guy or better, but only if the Seahawks bust his ass and develop him right. This kid has never been properly taught and conditioned. Now he's with the best defense in the league, he should be able make something of himself now.
He made a statement around that time to the effect UT would stop recruiting outside the state of Texas because they didn't need to look anywhere else. That struck me as idiotic.
They got completely disinterested in doing any work. I heard somewhere that they started primarily just relying on recruiting rankings instead of their own evaluations to pick talent (at least a few years ago - they did fix this, from my understanding when they brought in a recruiting coordinator). This is why Mack and everything infesting the program had to go. It's also why there are so many stories of the dysfunctional relationships ex-staff members like Harsin and Muschamp had with the program.

If Mack is still wondering why he had to go, this draft should be the final piece of evidence...and maybe the most damning, too.
Yesterday I was checking the draft results and filtering it by schools and I seriously thought there was some kind of mistake. Here are some schools that had more draft picks than The University of Texas: Bloomsburg Liberty Lindenwood McGill (in Candada) Pittsburg State Portland State Saginaw Valley State
All of those guys were really better than Jeffcoat? I doubt any of them was 3rd or better in the country in any stat. (Sacks for Jeffcoat). Selfish for us but it's better for him to sign with the Seahawks and that D than going in the 7th round. Is DL/LB not a position with a ton of holes? Does he not seem like a prototypical 4-3 DE? I don't get it. I don't think Chris Whaley should have been drafted. He prob wouldn't have even it he didn't get hurt and miss the end of the season. It was cool to see him get signed by the cowboys. I sure as hell am not going to root for the cowboys but I will for the Seahawks and Jeffcoat.
lol @ the Texas State fan defending UT-Austin branch still feeling jilted after your coach moved from SWTS to Rice? *snort*

UT got a commit from ESPN's #2 pro style QB today, Zach Gentry out of New Mexico. Kid is already 6'7.
