Hey guys. I'm getting ready to start looking for a new big screen TV. There are a few things that I'm looking for. I need one that is progressive scan capable through the component video inputs (some older ones are not). I would like at least 2 component video inputs, front RCA jacks, it needs 3:2 pulldown so it doesn't get grainy on edges of DVD pictures. I'm looking for something between 42 - 55 inches (I'll take a smaller TV in that range if I get a really good one, to save money). Have any of you shopped for a TV lately, have any suggestions, know of any deals, or any websites that give good ratings and suggest what I need. I'm trying to keep it somewhat affordable, perhaps around 2500-3000. Any help would be great. BTW: Needs to be HD ready and widescreen.
This is easily the best site to do some research on any home theater piece: http://audioreview.com/HDTV-Digital,TVs/PLS_2727crx.aspx
Hey BBS, I need that ClutchCity mojo working! Saturday is my Mom's church's Bazaar. They have a raffle every year, and second prize this year is a 60" HD television. I want to win it! I want it so bad that I don't even know what first prize is!
Cool, thanks for the site. Does anybody here have a TV that they own that they can recommend first hand?
Email me. My neighbor is on his way to Home Theater now. He's looking for pretty much what you want. So maybe if y'all buy 2 HDTV bigscreen's together, y'all can get a great deal. With warranty and all, the list price is 2300 I think, but he's been shopping around and got it to 2100 and he's shooting for 1900-2000. Let me go check on the size. Not sure, but I think it's a 55" Mitsubishi HDTV bigscreen.
I love my 73" Mitsubishi Hi-def widescreen tv as well. Anyways, the only thing that is wrong with it is that you can't see it clearly from angles. Especially during daylight hours.
How big is your room? I got a 43" Hitachi Widescreen and put it in a room that is 17 feet wide (about 13-14 feet between us and the TV). I think you get a little better picture quality with a smaller rear-projection than a huge one. If money was less of an objection, I would have gone for a Mitsubishi though. My main constraint was my wife wanting one that sat on a stand - we didn't want to spend just as much money on one of those entertainment centers.
You b*stard. How much did yours cost? You have HDTV all hooked up? DVD player? PS2? Digital Cable? Sound System? Come on, I had to have beat you on something.
73" hi-def widescreen series (platinum edition) Pioneer Elite reciever (best piece of equipment in my home theater) Energy speakers Progressive Scan Toshiba DVD player (its awesome, but I need to upgrade) DirecTV HD reciever DishNetwork PS2, XBox and GC - all hooked up via Component cables Playing Halo and NBA Street on my system can pretty much blow anything out of water. Did I mention the two massaging recliners? But I think FDKhan has a much better system then anyone on this board. He's got the new DLP tv. b*stard.
Do you also have a problem with angles and lighting? Mine sucks big time. You cant see crap from the side if there is any light. Me needs one of those plasma tvs. They are suppose to be dropping in price BIG TIME in the upcoming months. Also there is this new technology out that turns even regular channels into almost HD like. I went to the CES (Consumer Electronic Show) in Vegas. I think it was Phillips that had a plasma tv. The image on tv were broken in half, side by side. On one side they showed some movie using this new technology and on the other half they showed what it would normally look like. I dont think I have ever seen anything more amazing in the field of home theater. The best thing is that it could even be used to do that with normal tv channels. All Rockets games on HD!
Ya the problem is that my tv faces opposite of a huge window. In the morning, the glare is bad enough that I sit off to the side, and then the picture is not as good. Thats really my only complaint, I love everything else about my tv. I feel like im at a movie theatres everytime I watch tv. Its kinda strange though.... I dont really use it all that much. But, its nice that its there.
I have a 1992 19" Sony. Yee haw!!! By 2006, I suspect I will have one of those hang on the wall plasma HDTVs. 45" will do
