Yes, except I'm not sure I could stand watching the way clutchfans would treat him and run him out of town if they don't win in two seasons or play their favorite player to their liking.
Rudy T was a rookie coach who took the Rockets from the lottery to the division title his first year. And championships his 2nd and 3rd years.
I think a former player like Cassell who had fire in him would be ideal for this team though I don't know how good his Xs and Os are in comparison to McHale. This team really needs a tactician and someone to light a fire under the team's collective asses.
I'd welcome them to a Rockets staff at anytime. I know they have something to contribute. But I've seen anything from either one that leads me to believe they are capable head coaches at this stage in their careers. They've both been interviewed for positions here before and Elie might have been passed on twice IIRC. Maybe if Jim Boylen headed the whole thing up we might have something... but we're too good on paper to make a leap of faith hire IMO.
Sam & Mario & Hakeem for assistants. Lionel Hollins - Defensive Strategist D'Antoni - Offensive Strategist George Karl - Head Coach If Dwight wants the ball in the post and doesn't want to play PnR... F him... Ship his ass out. We need a strong coaching staff with strong leadership to instil some discipline and heart in our team. I want this like SAS. No stars, everyone gets the same treatment, everyone plays together as a team on both sides of the floor. Play with heart or GTFO!
Realistically, you could just go with Nate Mcmillan as your defensive asst. Karl is capable enough to run a great offense. Keep Sam and Mario as assistants as well with Hakeem as your big man consultant.
Yeah you're right. Having two highly paid former head coaches D'Antoni & Hollins as assistants is just dreaming. How about Payton or Bill Laimbeer (WNBA Championship coach) as defensive coordinators. Payton for perimeter and Laimbeer for post. Cassell work with PGs Ellie with 2 & 3s Hakeem with 4 & 5s George Karl for in-game and overall system and set-plays
Does he embrace analytics? Does he stick with crappy veterans over young players with more potential?
