He showed me nothing, but the ability to be taller than everyone else on the court. Put a body on him, and you can beat him.
Yao was truly a transcendent talent, with the ability to move the way he did at 7'6. Not only that, he was a true hard worker, every off season he would come back with better shooting, a more accurate hook/turnaround shot, etc. We were lucky to have him... but injuries robbed us of his best years.
Yao lost 5 inches of vertical after a foot surgery as teenager in China. Even after that he's way more athletic, especially in his early years.
yeah, ive been putting off clicking on this thread cause I really hate watching old videos of the monstrous-gentle-giant cause really I hate ****ing crying. Oh, what couldve been! Op is seriously r****ded!
This video got me pretty emotional. Yao was such a magnificent individual. One thing you'll notice in this video is that he ALWAYS runs back on defense immediately after scoring. He was all about winning.
wow OP . i'm sorry but you need to do your homework and get your eyes checked or learn the definition of what being athletic means.. But again I'm sorry you must really be blind or something.. this kid is tall.. perhaps is a bit more coordinated than some of the other 7 foor 5 stiffs out there but WTF ARE YOU SMOKING WHEN YOU SAY HE IS MORE ATHLETIC THAN YAO??????? Yao was a graceful, could run the court, could shoot, had amazing skills foot work and shooting range/touch for a guy his size. He also had amazing timing.. From that video Taco does not have that .. Again I'm sorry if I'm too harsh but you deserved it.
You kidding me? This is Yao as a rookie. Never before has a man that big ever moved with that kind of athleticism/power/finesse. Look at those dunks! WHOOOO! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixXRcGNx5_0
In what way? He almost never gets off the ground when he jumps and I didn't see him sprint at all in the video. Is he just a plodder or too lazy to freaking sprint down the court? I saw absolutely zero athleticism in that video.
Man remember when the rockets were "overall" less talented and less athletic then most and we still won on heart. This thread has depressed me
I know I am gonna sound like a liar saying this, but I actually know that guy. He spent a summer in Houston practicing at the JCC almost every day and I met him there. To say he is more athletic than Yao is so insulting.. he has literally 0 hand-eye coordination and has trouble catching the ball sometimes. He's also teddy bear soft. To put it in a simple way, no.
If Yao had remained healthy, he would already given us a championship. I would have preferred him more than Dwight. Imagine giving him those passes to him... Those feet of him are his curse.
His ceiling is manute Bol. Tall, and that's about it. I don't think he's division 1 material. Watching that Yao highlight video makes me sad. I miss that guy.
Anyone would take Yao over Dwight. Yao routinely took craps on Dwight. Watching his highlights make me sad. Would have beaten the Lakers in 09 and probably swept that Nuggets team if Yao didn't get hurt. Sucks the Rockets didnt have a good GM back then that could put better role players around him. Just a little too late. He was a cheat code on 2k too.
