Just a list of stuff over the last decade: CWebb traded from Washington to Sacto for Mitch Richmond. Mitch Richmond later returns to the West in LA. Rasheed Wallace use to play to Washington, now his in Portland. Scottie Pippen traded from Chicago to Houston, now in Portland. Kobe traded from Charlotte to Lakers for Divac on draft day. Divac returns to West in Sacto. Shaq signs with Lakers via free agency. Dirk traded for Tracter Traylor on draft day from Mil. to Dallas. KG drafted by Minn. TD drafted by San Antonio. Stephon Marbury for Jason Kidd, if Kidd goes to S.A., then it's basically more east killing. Ray Allen traded to Seattle for an aging Payton, who might return back West now. Marion drafted by Phoenix (a steal). Pau Gasol drafted by Grizzlies (a steal). There's no hope on the horizon other than the Orlando Magic. Overall, the West has drafted better, the stars have developed better, they have made better trades, and have acquired better free agents. Many of these deals have been so bad for the LEast that players traded there somehow end up back West again.
The one good trade that worked out well for the East in past years, was the Kidd-Marbury deal. As well as Jermaine O'Neal for Dale Davis.
Who knows if the Pistons can parlay that into anything useful... They should be able to draft someone better than Thorpe, but with East teams, who knows?
and the east picked paul pierce 10th. so basically the east has done 4 good things, one of those hasn't happened yet (det's lotto pick) and the other (kidd) could just be a two year boost that eventually turns out as marbury just coming west if kidd signs in SA. pathetic.
The thing that many people overlook when assessing the talents disparity beetween the west and east is how the frontoffice of the western teams ( mostly ) has been doing a pretty incredible work in finding talents that most people don't pay attention on. Guys like Mobley, Ginobili, Parker, Turkoglu, Stojakovic, Nowitzki, Arenas are a miracle talent finding and development handling regarded to their respective draft position, and the trend is still continuing IMHO.
