If a deal is ever to be done for Rondo, it'll be in the next two days. Cuz the Rockets would want to make two runs with him - this season and next - and therefore not wait for July 2014 or next season trade deadline. It's time for Morey to ante up, and Boston to take the offer if they don't think any other team will do better.
Well, Rondo will hopefully be fully healthy. He might even be re-signed to a new contract or an extension (he can wait until 2015 to become a FA, but the team and Rondo can also agree to a 3 year extension as soon as this coming offseason-- which Rondo might want to consider given injury risks, age and what not). Those things, plus some good performances on a good team, would hopefully elevate his value. The question really is whether Houston thinks that there is a decent chance that what they can get for Rondo at some point in the near future would be more than what they now give up.
Kurt Helin (@basketballtalk) tweeted at 11:59pm - 18 Feb 14: Not at deadline, it's a summer thing RT @WhadatSmellLike: @basketballtalk do you think the celts or any other team will acquire Omer Asik? Don't know if posted already.
And someone earlier said Ainge had all the power in this deal.... What power? He has a team thats 5th from the bottom, a max guy who isnt playing and most likely at the age of 28 wont resign with a rebuilding team, and the possibility of getting 2 first rounders and Lin who will sell tickets and jerseys while the team rebuilds. The upper hand goes to morey.
haha what? clearly morey will not want to owe jeff freaking green 18million over the next two seasons. why would the rockets be "way over the cap"? you're not making much sense.
*ahem* Chuck Hayes.. *ahem* Scolandry Brooks *kah-hah* Lowry Sorry, had something in the throat. So, this is your opinion?
I think if we had those guys at that point in their respected careers on this team (championship contender) then morey wouldn't trade them just like he won't trade chandler, back then morey was flipping anyone and everything for a better asset, now he is trying to win a larry o'brian, those old rockets and parsons situations should not be compared
Exactly. Bingo. You hit the nail on the head. Rondo takes the ball out of Harden's hands, which makes him even more effective. Harden's scoring (points per possession) this season: Transition: 1.26 PPP Cut: 1.22 PPP Hand Off: 1.14 PPP Spot-Up: 1.07 PPP Off Screen: 1.03 PPP Isolation: 0.91 P&R Ball Handler: 0.84 PPP Harden is at his worst in the P&R and in isolations...Rondo would give him man more spot-up and transition opportunities, which is where Harden is dominant.
Hayes wasn't traded he signed a deal with the kings Scola was amnestied Landry and Lowry were traded unfortunately but they were moved for a bigger reason and at least Landry's case there was the off court controversy with some team officials which help seal his ticket out of here
For you to compare Parsons to Hayes (7.9pts,8.1reb,2.7ast), Scola(amnestied saving us 19.4 million over two years), Landry(16.1pts, 5.5reb, 0.5ast, on a rockets team with way less scoring options 9million /yr) or Brooks(11.6pts,1.5reb,3.8ast was traded for the beloved Dragic AND a first rounder) is idiotic. And Lowry wasn't near on the level as a fan favorite as was Lowry, and he had problems with the coach, and look where he is now? On the trading block again.. If you read my whole post you'd know that I also commented on his stats, which are all better than the ones Morey let go, ON A BETTER ROCKETS TEAM.
It's not just that- and that per 36 is stupid- let's just use the same criteria we use for everybody- Parson's gone from 14 to 15 to 17 PPG average, very quickly, and he's young- you forget that factor- you can't get any better of a situation than that. Howard, Harden, and Parsons need to say- it would be nice for T Jones to, as well. All you need is an upgrade at PG. Lin and/or Beverly is a solid backup, so you get a better starting PG, a good bench player to complement Lin/Beverly and Casspi (yes, Casspi's a keeper)- and there's your 8-man rotation for a championship. Rockets are only going to get better next year and the year after if they keep this group- just like the Thunder kept their core (except for Harden- and with Reggie Jackson and now Lamb, they have a solid bench to overcome Harden's loss). You don't give up Parsons, period.
What if you are closer to the team than all of us and there are some doubts that cross your mind? What if an insider, who doesn't play games, just passes on info says "some doubts" in the mind of the GM regarding Parsons? Can you just maybe erase the "period" and put maybe because it may happen? It's being discussed. We know that much. Is it that big of a stretch for Daryl Morey and his history of flipping players to say maybe? Would you doubt Morey again?
That starting lineup is sick, but the bench is pathetic Rondo/Bev/Canaan Harden/AB Deng/Garcia/Covington Jones/Casspi Howard/??? Looks like we'd have to sign Jason Collins
LOL, seriously man, think sometimes. If the Rockets do not include Parsons, then the filler will most likely be the shi**ty contract of Wallace. IF the Rockets do add Parsons, then we will be getting back Green, which isnt a bad haul, given that Rando resigns with us. Thats how this will work. Celts are going to dump one of Green/Wallace salary on us, the question remains, if we want to put Parsons in the deal or not. That will dictate who we get back.
Good point, although Bev & Casspi getting the most minutes would be similar to the current bench, so you'd really only need that 3rd big. You'd have Rondo or Harden in at all times to run the offense if McHale could figure that out. Maybe a big man vet gets traded & released? How about Marcus Camby? This time, he'd be assured minutes...
