If someone had told you before the season that Jones would play this well...then you probably would have predicted championship contender status for the Rockets. Just shows how poorly our guards have played and how inferior our bench has been...not contenders yet, even with Jones performing at this level.
In a vacuum, I would agree but there things called salary that you need to consider. For instance, if timberwolves want Asik, Lin and TJ, I wouldn't do it. The amount of money we are paying TJ relative to how he has been playing of lately is so skewed. Meaning, if TJ, can consistently put 15 pts and 10 rbs, replace Asik with a player worth 8M per year, collectively, that might be the same value as a superstar.. Parsons and him are two players in our team that would be so difficult to trade because their salaries don't match their values.
TJ plus an $8 million backup center, even given their salaries, does not equal the cost benefit of a superstar. Superstars CHANGE THE GAME, backup centers and quality PFs merely contribute to the game. TJones is playing within his roll. He has the ability to become a very good one on one defender and solid finisher. Unfortunately he doesn't have a jumper.....and I mean at all. Unless he completely revamps his form, he won't be a good fit for this Rockets team.
Lol you guys are asking too much. Asik without a shot and offensive game is paid 5 million but next year 15 million. And he has been pouting. Jones is paid 1.8 million to do the job lol. Jumper here jumper there. Ridiculous comments. Keep on cherrypicking!
Boy, the PF position requirements has changed dramatically. Gone are the days when the most important part of their game are rebounding, low post defense, blocking shots and being in the correct spot when they double team your dominant center
SO everyone knows that the mayo block spin move dribble finish between 4 players was a travel, right? Still pretty awesome though.
After watching the Jones highlights I had the same thought. Upgrade at the 5, huge upgrade at the 4, perhaps a push at the 2 and 3, and some injuries at the point. I am sure someone has some stats. There seems to be something else wrong with this team that will not be revealed by an analysis by position. Certainly 19 points in a half is a group effort.
I think the defensive problems are related to depth, chemistry, and a small portion to talent. The offensive problems almost all go back to shooting. Poor shooters at PG and PF means the lane gets clogged, which means Harden has a harder time driving and Howard doesn't have as much room to work.
I really love the way jones is playing, but if him and Asik would net us Millsap I would still pull the trigger. I still think the lack of a shooting big is killing our offense, and he (like pretty much our entire team) is guilty of ball watching and getting out of poisiton on defense and rebounding, something Millsap really excels at. Having said that I'm beginning to think Jones could be a borderline all-star in time, but at this point I'll take the known over the unknown.
Interesting point. I think our problem comes down to these things: 1). Poor perimeter D 2). Poor 3 pt shooting 3) No answer for Dwight being on the bench (backup center) 4). Turnovers!!!!!!!!
Depends on when he gathered the ball on that first step. Very hard to tell in normal time. We need a super slow mo or some freeze frames like with the Harden Euro step from a week ago to prove it decisively one way or the other.
I thought that was traveling at the time, but after watching it several times I think it might be a legit move. He was gathering the ball as he was stepping with his right foot, and then took two huge steps and finished. Very impressive coordination and ball control. T-Jones may have more of these block-on-one-end, finish-on-the-other plays than any other player this year.
I can't care less if it's a travel. Lebron was laughed at in earlier years for him traveling. Not many young players have that kind of athleticism, handle, and skillet.
You can't tell from the .gif, but if you watch the video and stop it at the 4:54 and 5:11 points (gotta stop it at just the right moment) you will see that he did indeed plant the foot before the ball was gathered fwiw. No travel.
