I'm sure tons of new users didn't click on the thread because they didn't what that word Houston means.
Ehh? I would like to think that it makes no sense to criticize Houston and be a Rockets fan, but I guess the team has become so good (and/or added Jeremy Lin) such that fans are "on the bandwagon." Anyone who hates Houston or trashes the team after every game, win or lose, deserves banishment!!!
I've lived in different cities, the longest being LA. If you have time, we can talk extensively about how LA is a cancerous plot of disease whose disgusting scent can be whiffed from a thousand miles away. I don't hate houston, I hate tribalism, patriotism, jingoism, nationalism, and all the other related isms. If it were up to me, teams wouldn't even have cities; I think you're intelligent enough to know that ultimately, it's just a marketing ploy right?
no i think player only fans are making up strange excuses not to be fans of a city because they aren't fans of their own city's team. But as much as you don't want to believe it... YOU BELONG TO THE CITY. You were born in the city Concrete under your feet It's in your moves, it's in your blood You're a man of the street <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/1yUmhsy3KuY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
If teams didn't have cities then most fans would become apathetic and ambivalent towards them. It's kind of pompous and condescending to refer to simple and casual sports city pride as patriotism, nationalism and all that good stuff. Yeah sure, it's a similar concept but you're kind of blowing it out of proportion. Isn't rooting for any sports team always tribalism? Even if the team isn't affiliated with any city or location, it's still tribalism because you're giving your loyalty to one group. So with your logic it's morally wrong to root for any sports team..... seems legit
Houston. A song sang by Johnny Cash - I went out walking Through streets paved with gold Lifted some stones Saw the skin and bones Of a city without a soul I went out walking Under an atomic sky Where the ground won't turn And the rain it burns Like the tears when I said goodbye Yeah I went with nothing Nothing but the thought of you I went wandering I went drifting Through the capitals of tin Where men can't walk Or freely talk And sons turn their fathers in I stopped outside a church house Where the citizens like to sit They say they want the kingdom (Rockets) But they don't want God (Houston) in it I went out riding Down that old eight lane I passed by a thousand signs Looking for my own name I went with nothing But the thought you'd be there too Looking for you I went out there In search of experience To taste and to touch And to feel as much As a man can Before he repents I went out searching Looking for one good man A spirit who would not bend or break Who would sit at his father's right hand I went out walking With a bible and a gun The word of God lay heavy on my heart I was sure I was the one Now Jesus, don't you wait up Jesus, I'll be home soon Yeah I went out for the papers Told her I'd be back by noon Yeah I left with nothing But the thought you'd be there too Looking for you Yeah I left with nothing Nothing but the thought of you
It is true, for the Nba more so than any sport, that the Commissar covertly wanted/wants Player only fans as it's good for business. It's a shame. Promoting teams over individuals is always ideal. It's why all houstonians should support the Texans and astros no matter what.
WHAT! This is the best time to establish a team pride post. To me, its more about Houston pride. Winning or losing, Houston teams remind make me proud to be a Texan...and a Houstonian at that. That's why it burns me when I see all these flamers come on this board just to trash talk the Rockets and their players. To me they are basically taking a swing at my city. Yeah, I am a homer and truly proud of it.
Not necessarily. They would show up once in a while when we have a losing streak or even lose a game. Their goal is to rub it in. You don't lie down to bullies, you kick their butts.
