George Karl hopes to return to coaching, admits ‘anger and frustration’ over way things ended with Nuggets http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports....ustration-over-way-things-ended-with-nuggets/ McHale blows, enough said. I don't care how many games into the season we are.
Mchale is staying. He's one of the main reasons Dwight even came to Houston, and you think he's just going to get shipped off 6 games into the season? You, and many others on here than are overreacting to 1 loss, need a serious dose of reality...
George Karl would be a massive upgrade. Honestly, if you replace McHale with a lemon tree on the bench, I doubt much would change.
Posted this in another thread, but: JVG has talked at length about how if your superstar does not have the personality to lead a team, the coach needs to step in and set the tone for the team. It is no coincidence that the team Dwight Howard led to the finals was coached by JVG's brother, someone who stepped into that role. Unfortunately, we are saddled with two very talented but uninspiring superstars. This is nothing that hasn't been said before, but Harden looks like a homeless crackhead on defense and then breaks plays for his Cuttino Mobley/Steve Francis-era ISO plays on offense. Howard is listless on offense unless a play is called for him, and, while an elite defensive player, he does not hold his teammates accountable for their lack effort on D. When I look at our bench now, I see a Hall-of-Famer who's a player's coach. He's used to the accountability of Bird, Parish, etc. He's not used to having a coach police his players because when he played, they didn't need it. Now, he's doing nothing but babysitting a two immature stars and allowing them to run the team. Sadly, he doesn't know what else to do. I really think that Morey is biding his time until he can get rid of McHale this offseason. He knows the character of his stars, and he has a close enough relationship with JVG to understand that not all great-talent comes with great leadership abilities. Just wait, we will bring in a new, more disciplined coach next year, and we're going to take the next step.
Why wait til next season? When you have a coach as good as George Karl, you get him. He's not going to be on the market long.
Im not gonna advocate for anything but you should ask urself one question and one question above all: do you think McHale can lead this team to a championship?
Give it time. Les Alexander is not firing a coach 6 games or so into the season. And it's not like those often work out. For example, the Lakers replaced Mike Brown 5 games into last season and didn't get past the 1st round.
I remember tyson chandler expressing how much he wanted to play for d'antoni... i know, tyson chandler is not dwight howard...
George Karl brings immediate credibility to the offense...and establishes something that this team desperately needs...since Adelman went, the Rockets fail to execute plays and are completely reliant on iso ball during crunch times. Insert the best opposing defender for the other team on Harden or Lin, and the play fizzles. This team lacks creativity on offense and has really got by on the pure talent of Harden to get along in games. McHale has this vision of a fluid offense, one which he was a part of in Boston, but really has no clue how to get players to buy into it. With Karl, the offense has flow, and plays will get guys open shots. He is a terrific in game manager and is able to adjust lineups accordingly. He wont have players on the floor that are liabilities... He maximized on the talents of that Denver team. With all that being said, the Rockets wont make a change unless this current team continues to struggle or is a .500 team by like January or if they dont make the playoffs. Mchale was never the great offensive mind, but he is a players coach. The issue is that he has too many voices trying to lead the team, but no one executing what he wants. Finally, the Rockets must find a way to get James involved more off the ball...He is a terrific set shooter, but often finds it neccessary to create for himself and for others. Mchale was visibly mad at James on one play, but it seems his whipping boy is Lin. James is starting to take a turn for the worse by not playing off the ball more(as a real 2 guard). Jeremy is good enough to attack the rim, but rarely do i see Lin ever keep the ball in his hands during the entire possession. We dont need another Steve Francis...
I can't agree with this. Has Karl EVER had the best player in a playoff series he lost? I'm asking honestly because I don't want to look it up.
Obviously MCH hasn't learned anything from our brief appearance in last year playoffs. Despite his ability to motivate players. We have the talent but we are lacking the coaching that will bring us to where we all expect this team to go.
Dump McHale for a coach that: > Has had conflicts at every place he's ever coached? > Got his teams into the conference finals only 3 times in 25 years, despite coaching some VERY talented teams? > Has gotten only ONE team to the finals? No thanks. If we make a coaching change at any point, there are much better choices.
morey will trade asik therefore ending the twin towers mchale so stubbornly insists on playing. All will be well.
