The point is, if you didn't get it, he might HAVE TO. And no, Houston doesn't want another team to claim him because that team will have him committed throughout the year. Houston wants to have the ability to pick him up later on in the year as an insurance policy. They are already over the cap, and will not hit the luxury tax.... having the small amount of Camby's salary hit the salary cap makes no difference here. Also you are dead wrong if you dont think a contending team like Miami or Chicago wouldn't want to secure his services for next March, April, May, June..... These teams need a defensive center at all costs.... plantar faciitis is a risk they will deal with in November 10 times out of 10. Per Pelton- Kevin Pelton @kpelton 10h How soon can he be in Chicago? RT @BrettNBA: The Houston Rockets will waive Marcus Camby on Monday, reports @MarkBermanFox26. Also - I find this hilarious that this report came out minutes after Pelton's statement- Marc J. Spears @SpearsNBAYahoo 8h Soon-to-be cut Rockets C Marcus Camby will be out 2-3 months after plantar fascia left foot surgery on Friday, agent Rick Kaplan told Yahoo. Now, why would his AGENT need to release a statement about how long he is going to be out????.....hmmmm.... Could it be, that maybe... just maybe he is TRYING to get a team to NOT pick him up off of waivers??? If Marcus Camby is to get picked up off of waivers he will make the amount he is due from this current contract, and nothing more. If NO TEAM claims him off of waivers (presumably because of his injury) he will then be allowed to come back to the Rockets at a later date as a free agent and earn MORE money, and stay in Houston to rehab as a coaches assistant or whatever. This isn't brain surgery folks. If for some reason a team like Miami or Chicago calls his bluff in the next 24 hours and makes a bid to claim him off of waivers.... dont be surprised if you hear the word "RETIRE" come from Camby's camp to scare suitors off. Camby makes more money, and he gets to stay at home if he isn't claimed off of waivers, and then Houston picks him up again later on during the season. If he gets claimed off of waivers, he is held captive by the team that claims him.... UNLESS he retires.
I thought tenured veterans don't have to go through waivers. They become free agents immediately upon being cut. Or I might have my sports messed up and it's the nfl or other league that doesn't subject veterans to waiver wire.
If he files for retirement, he loses whatever money remains on his contract. Also, he's not allowed to sign up again with the Rockets (or any other NBA team) at a later point if he's filed for retirement, unless all 30 teams agree. Players who have voluntarily filed for retirement to get out of a contract are not allowed to come back into the league without the unanimous approval of all 30 teams. Any single team is allowed to veto him from playing again in the league. So if he gets picked up off the waiver wire by another team, he can't file for retirement to avoid playing for them, and then come back and sign with the Rockets later out of retirement. At the very least, the team he did that to (or any other team) would veto him from playing for the Rockets. No reason for any team to help the Rockets reacquire him out of retirement.
But then he would be banned from playing again in the league, unless all 30 teams unanimously agree to let him back.
Man, our average age just dropped by quite a bit. Does anyone know the average age ranking of our team versus the league now?
Camby, Daniels, Williams or Covington. These 3 I think will be the ones cut. Daniels is already waived. Camby is going to be. And I think Williams will get waived since Covington can develop/be used in the D-League. How many are supposed to be in the D-League? Is it a requirement or a coach option? I never really understood how it works.
Hopefully his agent's twitter plea helps him not get picked up. Boy that would be awkward to find out while he's soaking in the Toyota Center ice tub.... Hey Marcus.... check Twitter.... your a Bull.
Didn't want to start a whole new thread around this Asik trade, so I just bumped this old thread to say perhaps it would be okay to not receive a center back for Asik if Camby can come back for a half a season.
Remember Deke played till he was 43. Camby is 39. He could have the 10-15 minutes a game left in him to give D12 a rest and still keep the defense afloat.
It was pretty obvious he would rehab till Asik got dealt and then he would return for the second half of the season.
Totally different case. Camby is merely human and Dikembe is an immortal spirit from the rivers of Congo. Dikembe has such healing powers that he managed to build a hospital. Camby can't even build a clinic for small animals.
This is great news. We might have a vet C come back meaning that's the guy who can sub in for minimal minutes for howard
