Rather than feeling bad about the experiment itself, I think he may be more upset that it has become "an issue" when he wanted a happy homecoming to grandparents and cousins land. I'm sure his relatives are probably asking about it. He's already under an intensely bright spotlight there. I'm sure he can't help but feel a little pressure there, and this only adds to it.
Actually on a popular Rockets board in China, fans basically debated this issue from a Rockets team standpoint. Some feel it's better for the team that Lin comes off the bench. Some feels that he should still start because he's better. Others talk about how the best players don't necessarily start. You know, debate the issue from a merit, team standpoint. They actually have a basketball discussion. If you are outraged personally by this McHale moves, just say you don't like it. Don't try to speak for millions of Asians. Most of whom don't actually see disrespect and racism at every corner. I'm sure Asian basketball fans don't want to be associated with those who care less about Lin's personal success, Rockets team success, and care more instead about some perceived slight of being the 6th man.
From what I understood, I think the problem wasn't that he didn't get to start or anything, it's that they wanted see him playing with Howard, which they didn't get.
The Filipinos...? No, probably not so much, even though the overwhelming majority of the advertisements to promote the game in the Phillipines were centered around Lin. It's the Taiwanese who are upset. Lots of Taiwanese fans, you see, had made the trip out to Manila to attend the game... It's just weird that McHale did what he did at this particular time. You may not be offended and may think nothing of it...however, there are a lot of folks in Taiwan who are confused and unhappy right now. That's not the kind of reaction you want to on your "goodwill tour" which is supposed to be a hap-hap-happy time of breaking barriers and not creating new ones. Anyway...whatever; can't wait for the game on Saturday!!
That, too. BUT mostly, false advertising. Lin has been the starter ever since he became a Rocket and he was the starter during the first preseason game. No indication he wouldn't be a starter at all. Hopes were deflated - BIG time.
Not only many Taiwanese were upset but also the ones who placed their hopes and dreams in Lin (and that includes many Filipinos).
Basketball comes first, everything else second. Mchale did what's best for the Houston Rockets and it doesn't matter what soil it was played on. If you think with the glass half full, playing Lin with the second unit actually allowed him to be showcased and the center of attention. Think about it, it ain't happening with alpha's like Harden and Howard on the floor at the same time. Lin would then fall back to becoming a third or even fourth option. Then they shall complain of why Jeremy only run to corner and throw peace sign? But people can think whatever they'd want, at the end of the day its just a damn NBA basketball game.

The the love of God, seriously, I am Taiwanese and live in Taiwan and I honestly don't see that much of an upset on either media or social media that people were upset over this. If you are bitter on that Lin didn't get to start last game, he'll get the chance to do it tonight. What's the big deal? It's still preseason. Lin is a good player. Period. A player's success is defined along with team success. I am sure Lin knows that too. Please just sit back and enjoy this freaking game.
One would only hope for basic courtesy... why not inform the parties in advance about his plans... flying 20 hours to get to the arena means it is not a 'regular' preseason game
After the Taipei game, y'all would seriously consider trading the Toyota Center crowd for the Taiwan crowd.

I didn't realize Dwight was so fun-loving and silly. I can see why he didn't jive so well with Kobe! Also he loves the camera, doesn't he; as does JLin and Parsons? This trait in particular might come in handy when May comes around and these guys get asked to do all kinds of commercials and stuff after they steal the trophy away from Lebron and co.!
