Supposed to be announced shortly. http://www.engadget.com/2013/09/23/microsoft-surface-2-liveblog/ http://live.arstechnica.com/microsoft-unveils-surface-2-and-surface-pro-2/ http://live.theverge.com/microsoft-surface-2-liveblog/
Looking forward to hearing the full specs. I love my RT, but a lot of my co-workers have gone completely to the Pro and ditched their laptops. I am going to seriously consider a pro this time around.
Yeah, I'm looking to potentially get the Pro also since my laptop is dying. The one big thing for me is battery life which I hope is improved from the first model.
The new line of Surface tablets will allow Microsoft to continue expanding its marketshare at the expense of Apple and Google. The specs should impress not only geeks but average-joe (and jane) consumers. Along with the slow end of smartphone subsidies by ATT and Verizon, Microsoft has positioned itself well for the future with its addition of Nokia devices. Oh, did I mention, I am long MSFT?
I have been thinking about the pro 2 .I want to get the cover with a battery in it with some plugs for accessories,
75% better battery life with the Haswell + improved battery. And then the power cover giving another 2.5x battery life on top. I think I'm sold on just the battery.
Surface Pro is a solid device. If I were a going into college I would totally buy one + the keyboard dock. Not sure why MS doesn't focus on that market segment because it would be great. Most college students have a laptop which is a necessity but also have or want a tablet just to have fun with. Even the Surface RT would be enough power to run 90% of what college students would need.
Pre-orders start tomorrow at 8 AM EST. I'm thinking going with the Pro with 128GB. Free Skype for 1 year is worth around $100 $219 for Office Home and Business 200 GB of Skydrive space for 2 years is $100/yr So you're getting $519 worth of free stuff with the Surface 2.
They just wrote down a billion dollars in inventory and they are making another tablet? They should do what they are best at, software. Keep office, VS, sql server, windows etc. and just get rid of the rest of the company.
I would highly recommend to anyone considering a Surface that they get a Pro. Either 1 or 2, but don't go with RT, the platform sucks, and you are limited to apps on their store, which is not very robust. The Pro gives you full Windows 8, which means you can install Windows executables or run old software in compatibility modes (emulators anyone?). I have a Surface and it's awesome to be able to plug in a 360 controller and play old SNES games on it. N64 and PS1 would probably work too, but I haven't tried them yet.
It looks like such a good product honestly, but the lack of apps from 3rd part developers kills it for me.
I have a Pro and wouldn't ditch my laptop in favor of it. Specs are weak compared to a higher end laptop and the keyboard is much too small for my hands. Good portable device but it has a little way to go to replace my laptop.
Specs are supposed to be competitive with Ultra books in similar price range which they are. With that said, if anyone is looking for a high-end laptop, this definitely isn't that.
