I actually like Jennings at that much, But I hate the fit. I just don't see that starting five being more than a .500 team that is too talented to be one. You cant just throw together a bunch of pieces and pray it works out. They just built the east's 7th seed for the next 3 years.
i don't think it's stupid. Brandon Knight isn't really panning out. plus Brandon Jennings has immense talent and Billups will help him realize it. this team has mad potential, especially with Andre Drummond in the mix. if they could flip Monroe for Green then Detroit's linup would be sweet. Billups just needs to tell Jennings to stop taking long ass midrange jumpers and only shoot threes or drive to the rim Brandon Jennings, Cadwell Pope, Jeff Green, Josh Smith, Andre Drummond. that could get a 6th seed easy and if Andre Drummond and Cadwell Pope develop and Drummond becomes a superstar in the next three years then they could go for higher seeds but I would say Detroit is headed in the right direction.
Drummond + josh Smith + brandon jennings should be a trainwreck to watch. good thing they have chauncey to mentor them
I actually like the deal for the Pistons. They made a horrid move with their capspace back in 2009 with Villanueva and Gordon. Have never made it past 30 wins once since then. Sure, this move doesn't make them contenders - but what realistic move could they have made that would have made them contenders? They get a 'piece' who will provide backcourt shooting (and lots of it...) - something they really lacked. They have enough pieces now to make the playoffs, and from there they can start to improve their squad. They need to sort out which of Monroe or Drummond they want to keep, or find a way for them to play on court together. Should be interesting to see how that pans out this season.
Brandon Knight had a rough year. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/BBuIjU4nKVY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/NTkN2q6sUUk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/2syX02gcin4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Jennings is a chucker, but better than Knight. At least Jennings is a PG (2.4 A/TO) but Knight is barely at 1.5 A/TO and is too small and too crummy of a shooter to be a SG. Jennings has value, but I don't know why Dumars felt he had to sign and trade at $8 mill. If he played hard ball I bet he could get him for $6 mill. He probably just didn't have the ice in his veins for that.
