If you are talking about big men, then Duncan does not make the cut for the "top 2". Hakeem and Shaq were both better. Both were truly dominant players. Its very hard to use the adjective "dominant" with Duncan.
The qualifications of what makes a Center or Power Forward really have fallen if you believe what a lot of so called "experts" say these days since they would prefer the positions to be interchangeable even when that hasn't been the case until more recently when teams have preferred to play small. Tim Duncan is probably the best Power Foward in the history of the NBA no doubt he will go down as the most prolific at the position but anyone that calls him a straight up center is a moron. You don't call Kobe a point guard just because he handles the ball more the his other teammates, you shouldn't call a big man that is very good at everything you'd want a normal big man to do a center just because it makes it easier to classify him compared to other greats.
Unless Basketball reference is a pseudo landing spot for rockets only fans, Hakeem is #2 to Jordan on the fan ELO rating whilst Duncan is #42.
Dude, get TINMAN NOW for this guy. Duncan better at D than Dream? What? Two year prime? What!? You know he got to the finals, and beat the Lakers before!? Early in his career! Dream all time block shot leader! Dream is 8th in steals and he was a CENTER!? DUDE get some facts bro., and no expert would ever say Duncan unless they just mean Chips. Dream was the most dominant Center to maybe ever play because he could play like a guard. He was that quick, and that good!
Duncan is good, no duncan is great. But the dream is one of the best to ever do it in his position. Ever. He helped evolve the game of basketball.
Shaq was a better showman for sure, but I like result. Duncan is much more efficient and effective. Just guessing, Duncan probably is a better team mate too, no one on the Spurs squad has to live in Duncan's shadow. In most companies, there are always high profile employees but if you look closely, they are not the people usually get things done.
Sigh. We have been here before. Many times. I shan't repeat myself, therefore, I will quote myself: On Duncan having the better career while Dream peaked for only a few years: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=7622529&postcount=107 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=6895559&postcount=72 On clutchness: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=6885803&postcount=43 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=7622939&postcount=110 On defense: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=4784145&postcount=96 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=4480361&postcount=40 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=4296246&postcount=98 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=4033236&postcount=327 On the better player: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=6499423&postcount=78 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=6500227&postcount=93 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=6506430&postcount=135 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=4296421&postcount=103 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=7627588&postcount=127 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=4296977&postcount=140 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=4036698&postcount=382 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=3084915&postcount=73
Ugh why do people use rings to compare players? Rings is a team effort as well. Obviously great players should win a ring but at some point it's really about how good your teammates were. I've seen this subject debated on neutral forums, this is obviously a pro-Rocket forum. But the consensus was this: Olajuwon is the better player, better peak. Duncan has more career accomplishments. Olajuwon was better than Timmy.. Timmy just did had better teams and thus more rings
I agree TD has been productive but Hakeem has better stats against better competition, e.g. Ewing, Robinson, Shaq, and Kareem. Td only has kg. Td has more championships but against weak teams, e.g. Ewingless Knicks, NJ, Cleveland and banged up Pistons.
There is no point in debating this on clutchfans just like there is no point of debating it on spurstalk. Hakeem was better, but they were comparable players IMO.
The league has changed and so has the spurs. They went from a slow, plodding, defensive team to one of the best offense in the league. Gotta give Duncan credit for an 180 reversal and still dominate. And I think he's on to get his 5th ring. Rings are important. Rings mean you are the best and will be forever immortalized in history.
Because Duncan is recent and that's what sticks in peoples minds. Duncan has had a great career but Dream is in my opinion better by far. Take Dream in his prime and Duncan in his prime and Duncan would be having nightmares just like Robinson because Dream would have destroyed him. As far as Charlie P. goes, He acts like he knows basketball but he doesn't. He always talks out of his ass about it. I think he doesn't watch much NBA and just gets his information from the press.
Hold on there young man. Horry and Fisher aren't the best. Neither are any of the Celtics though Russell and Cousy are at least in the conversation.
Why is this even a comparison? Duncan is not even a Center. And even if you put him at the PF, KG will give Duncan a run for best PF of the decade.
just by watching the game, hakeem is far better. the truth? they play in different era and nobody knows what wouldve happened if they switched or played in the same era.
