You and your crew will get a kick out of it, and the Drafthouse on Slaughter is a great venue, as you no doubt know. Heck, I can ride my electric bike over there for some brews and a flick! One of the best things to happen in Southwest Austin in a long time. I just wish the parking was a bit easier. It was packed last night for the midnight showing.
So, for the first one, you really didn't have to be a Trekkie to understand the movie. For this one though, even though the timeline is pretty much a clean slate now due to the events from the first movie, do we need to have any Trek knowledge to understand / enjoy "Into Darkness?"
They can watch "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" but he's not the lead and le Carre spy stories usually appeal more to dudes. I think.
Saw it last night and it was enjoyable but I was disappointed it borrowed and referenced so much from the original movies, 2 movies in particular came to mind. I found a lot of the “twist” pretty obvious and the reactor room scene was bad IMO. To me it played like a mash up of Spoiler Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek: The Undiscovered County with Space Seed sprinkled in. Give it a C+
Spoiler Try to catch a bunch of the original tv episodes - they are awesome anyway, if you have never watched them. But in particular, watch the episode Space Seed, and then for sure the movie Wrath of Khan. I would also recommend The Trouble with Tribbles episode.. Those will have you on a pretty solid footing, and you will enjoy the movie a lot more.
Does anyone else have similar grades / concerns like this poster? Because all I've read in this thread is how this movie exceeded expectations. Or at the very least, met them.
Heh, no...some people always need something to complain about. The movie was very very very good. I recommend it without reservation. The nods to the prior movies were nice, I felt.
Just got back from seeing it. I never was much of a Star Trek fan and didn't bother to keep up with it. But this movie was pretty good overall. Thumbs up.
I reaaly wanted to love this movie but it felt like a made for tv miniseries mashed into a movie. I reaaly enjoyed the first one, this one not so much. I would barely give it a C-. Way way too predictable. Every major plot set was easily identified well in ad advance, and a lot of the conversations I found to be quite cheesy. And yes "that" scene was gut wrenchingly terrible. Heres to hoping super man is better.
It was great, and I was able to walk there from my house, we are pretty much just behind the Drafthouse. We had 3/4ths of the theater and had a few extra tickets so I played give away as people came in to buy seats. Good time...love the homage to the original. Mr Checkov ! Spoiler You need to put on a red shirt CLASSIC ! DD
Just got home from watching it. J.J. Abrams nailed every single aspect of it. The movie was outstanding.
A little buzzed right now, but thought the movie was extremely entertaining. Not sure how much it matched up with the original Star Treks, but this one was definitely worth the price of admission. I highly doubt anyone would regret paying to see it.
