I agree, he's definitely "fools gold" he gets the all-star stats but he doesn't make players around him better nor does he possess the iso mid-range game to take over a game in the clutch.

He is more than a great shooter. He is excellent with moving out the ball and creating easy buckets without having the ball. By the logic many are giving that he's nothing but a "good shooter" Steve Novak should average 24 points per contest.
Kevin Martin is not a superstar, but if it's easy to be Kevin Martin, there would be more people putting up numbers like his. After all, those numbers got him a lot more money than the average NBA player makes, so if a lot of people could be Kevin Martin if they just tried, they should be doing it already.
Very nice, concise summary of K-Martin and this thread. +1 PS: Kevin-actually pass Budinger the ball for once!

I'm willing to compromise and accept this, but only because superstar is being used in such a vague way anyway, in this thread and in general use. Very well said.
Role players like Ray Allen are hall of famers. Trust me nobody, especially KM, cares what "category" you consider him in. The point is he's a great baller.
Funny how Martin is considered fool's gold, but players like Bryant and Melo, who go 9-22 or worse(many times causing their teams to lose) on any given night are considered the superstars. Does effieciency count for anything?
coach, how many times do u see carmello and guys like kobe going scoreless or scoring 2 pts in the last 6 minutes of a game? Martin does it alot and thats why this team is so bad in games decided by 3 pts or less. Losing games like that because your best player doesnt produce will lead to the lotto. I've been watching him for a long time and its the same thing. He's a great asset if your team is up and the opponet has to foul, but he's terrible in the 6 minute, close game situation. Morey has said good teams dont play close games, they avoid them. In reality, 70% of the games are decided in the last 6 minutes of a game.
Points is points. It's not that he doesn't "make his teammates better." It's that he gets his points at the foul line and in and1 plays. His impact is essentially "off" the court. It's not really a bad thing, it just lacks the on court presence and impact that guys like Wade or Bryant will have.
He's not fool's gold. You guys are just looking for reasons to criticize. He's more like silver. Maybe not gold, but it's still got decent value.
