Rockets go up by 11, got great looks every shot, and looked like they were going to blow the Lakers out (rough quote). Then McHale subbed Lin out ...

So every time you stay on the bench a few minutes too long, you have an excuse to play absolutely horribly for the rest of the game? C'mon.
the lead was lost when mcfail decided to sit LIN, HARDEN, & ASIK all at the same time while letting gmsith guard howard and 6'6 delfino guard gasol. The lead kept on evaporating yet mcfail never called a timeout until the momentum and the lead was lost. Beverly was having a hard time getting the offense going and when he finally did, he gets yanked and an ice cold Lin who had been sitting for almost a whole quarter gets put back in. How can any player get any rhythm with mcfails ridiculous substitution patterns?
Not the way you want to stumble into the playoffs. The last couple of games if you are not resting your starters is suppose to be a accumulation of what you learned the whole season or what we learned. Last night was like final exams and we still made the same mistakes that we did in previos test. Too predictable. How many of you guys out there knew Harden was going to go iso? Before Lin got subbed out he was doing alright getting everyone involved. And then Mch subbed him out too long. The ball movement got sticky. And by the time he got back in he was colder than t-macs knee. No flow or movement on offesnse. The iso is a gift to the other teams D. Only one guy has to play D and the other defenders get to rest because there are no movement from the other players so they just wait for us to shoot a 3 and rebound.
No it isn't an excuse. But the job of a coach is to put players in a position to be successful & sitting a guy for 12 minutes isn't doing that. And it isn't even just Lin. McHale has been doing this all year to multiple players. Sits Parsons when he is hot, sits Patterson when he is playing well & doesn't play him until garbage time. Sat Mook when he was hot. Doesn't put Omer Asik in & the opposing team gets every rebound. Keeps Beverly & Garcia when they are struggling. Doesn't run screens or picks to give our backcourt a fighting chance to attack. Plays Carlos Delfino on the gasol brothers.
What? Who's making excuses? Those were the possible reasons for Lin's piss poor performance in the 4th qtr.
He'd be crucified and possibly banned from the forum had he joined Clutchfans. Remember that Lin could be the next steve Nash clip? Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.
his comment on one question got me confused. he agreed that by the time lin had a few TOs after back, he should be subbed out. before lin back on the court, lakers chipped away our lead one pt by one pt to the point they tied the game (all 11 pts lead disappeared). i thought after all starters back, we at least stopped lakers' momentum of chipping away the lead althought we did manage our offense badly. does his opinion mean we should let lakers continue to build the lead one pt by one pt so every rox fan would be very happy that lakers blew away rox?
You are. Sitting a few minutes longer than you should've doesn't give you an excuse to play like a high schooler.
Houston got man handled on the glass that's how the Lakers stayed in the game. Howard had no reason to pay attention to Asik or Gasol to Smith, Jones or Delfino. The Rockets were on dimensional the played the pick and roll with a mind set of letting the guards and forwards shoot nothing in the lane. Games like these really show Asik offensive limitations and exploits them. Smith is better but against the lakers he's undersized offensively. Jones next year could have a lot to say here but his mistakes are more of the fundamental kind boxing out, keeping an eye on the player and the ball, playing flat footed and relying on athleticism for rebounds. The only bright side in the series against OKC is that their front court players other than Durant are not very good offensively. I expect Smith and Jones in particular to be scorers in this series which ultimately can get Houston better shots on possesions and lower our turover count.
In what world I said any player should? Quote me on that or go improve your reading ability. People are discussing the possible reasons for Lin's poor performance, thats their right and their opinion. You don't have to agree but you can't accuse them for making excuses as if everything is on the coaching staff.
Coach Nick said that Lin should've came back much earlier in the 4th. By the time that Lin was put back in at the 6 min mark, Lin was ice cold, and after a couple of TOs by Lin, Bev should of been put back in. He also said that after a certain point in the quarter, it would have been better to just keep Bev in, basically saying if you aren't gonna bring Lin back in early, don't bring him back at all. On Bev's overall performance, he said Bev did some good things and some bad things. Bev didn't stand out to him. On Lin's 4th Q performance, Coach Nick said it was the worst 4 min stretch of BBall he has seen in a while. He actually tweeted this. At the same time, he is a fan of Lin (Note I said fan of Lin and not Lin Only Fan. The guy watches all basketball and not just Roxs basketball.) Overall, Coach Nick said both Lakers and Roxs made a lot of mistakes and both teams backpedaled into the playoffs. The Roxs just played worst. Other things he said: -Lin/Harden/Parson all jump into the air and not knowing what to do and that all three need to learn to stop doing that. -He would of liked to see more plays other than ISO in the 4th. Specifically, more side to side plays to open up space for drives or for good looks. -Harden holds on to the ball way too long. Harden needs to figure out wants to do before he starts dribbling. Players should start making their moves with 12 secs left and not 4 secs. -Thinks Parsons is most underrated player in the NBA, possible future star in Parsons but wonders why his shot is so flat. It's not something he would teach. -Didn't think the refs were one-sided at all. -Harden took a lot of bad shots, some in the process of looking for fouls and needs to stop doing that. -Star defensive players like Howard won't get ticky-tack or non-obvious fouls like the last one that Harden tried to draw on him in the 4th Q. When Harden was on the ground, he thought Harden was just pretending to be hurt to save face. -He stayed away from directly calling out McHale and D'antoni, but did point out a lot of mistakes in play calling and sub patterns.
If guys are cold (and I'm talking about Harden and Lin in the 4th), then it's the coaches' job to find the right combination. When Lin started misfiring in the 4th, I agree we should have tried out Beverley or even Delfino/Garcia. Just to find some shooting. Nah, we went with a stagnant line-up for too long.
