http://espn.go.com/ncb/news/2003/0307/1519818.html Ewing Jr. picks Indiana, eyes playing time right away Patrick Ewing Jr. is heading to Indiana University. Ewing Jr., son of former NBA star Patrick Ewing, told the Indianapolis Star on Thursday night that he has verbally committed to the Hoosiers. Ewing called Indiana coach Mike Davis to inform him of his decision two days after making his official visit to the school. "I really think I may be able to come in next year and get some of the minutes Jeff Newton had this year," Ewing told the Star. "Hopefully, I'll make an impact right away." In his senior year in high school, Ewing averaged 19 points, 12 rebounds and two blocked shots per game for National Christian Academy (Washington, D.C.). Ewing, a 6-8, 220-pound forward, also had scholarship offers from Texas, Virginia and Georgetown, as well as strong interest from Louisville. "I wasn't really planning on giving a commitment this soon, but after I sat down and talked with my mother, my father and coach Davis, I just decided Indiana was the best place for me," Ewing Jr. told the Star. "I think he's a perfect fit for the Indiana system," Trevor Brown, Ewing's high school coach, told the Star. "He can play in the post, face the basket and go outside and shoot the 3. He's a player with a tremendous amount of upside."
