Lines are still stinkin' long at Franklin's. Would definitely encourage you to give it a try if you've never been. Two BBQ hotspots that've recently opened are John Mueller Meat Company and Micklethwait Craft Meats, both of which are located in East Austin.
John Mueller's sister basically gave him the boot from his old location and shut it down since she apparently owned it. She started up her own place in Austin called la Barbecue. FYI : The pit master at la Barbecue used to work at Franklin. You Austinites may want to check it out. http://labarbecue.com/
Let me get this straight. Some sister of a BBQ god fired him and then started her own place with a "la" in front of it, and made him move. And she's obviously banging the new "pit master." How dare my sister do that to me! Is that not the definition of B I T C H!
"la Barbecue" lols Remind me to open one of these in Spain or Australia when I retire. Maybe in Australia I could call my restaurant..."la Barbie" Funny though, because "la Mexicana" makes complete sense to me as a Mexican restaurant. But, "la Barbecue"??
It could be called le ****holé if the brisket and ribs are moist and fatty with a nice rub that makes the stomach growl just by thinking of it. Shorter lines too, I bet.
Lol Franklin... That place is legendary... Showed up there a week ago at 10:15 (it open's at 11), and was informed that the line was already 4 hours long.
Yes, but have you ever had a Pork Butt at la Barbie. hmmm, I think I'm on to sumpin for my retirement restaurant in Australia la Barbie's meat is so moist la Barbie has the best sauce Have you ever tried la Barbie's thighs
But didn't Dr of Dunk just inform us that the pit master of Franklin left to go bang the sister of John Mueller and convince her to screw her brother by closing his restaurant, so they could open another together. Am I missing something. "la Barbecue" Maybe the line is shorter there.
Wife slept in, son's hooked on mine craft, daughter is at a sleep over so im standing in line at La Barbecue now. Review to come.
Pork Rib was excellent, brisket also. Waiting to get home to try the beef rib and sausage. la Barbecue by mbarkerphotos, on Flickr http://instagram.com/p/YF4FDyK_qp/
Ok so here's a full review of la Barbecue. I arrived at 10:45 and had my 1.5 lbs of brisket, 1.5 lbs pork ribs, 1 link of sausage and 1 beef rib in hand by 11:15. I had a sample of brisket in line with a free lonestar. The girls in line behind me had just come from franklins where the line was an estimated 3 hour wait. When I got to the window there was a the last short end pork rib sitting there which the cutter handed me as a sample. I had a hard time ordering it was so good. I had another piece of moist then headed for home with my $65 worth of smoked meat. The moist and lean brisket both had an excellent bark and were far from dried out. It's been 6 months since I had franklins because of the wait, but this was on par with my memories of Franklins. A+ The pork ribs had a nice sheen and a mild sweetness that was top notch. The meat pulled away from the bone easily. On par with any I've had. A+ The sausage had a nice mild splcy kick and the skin had a nice snap when you have a bite. Solid A Now I'll admit I'm not a beef rib eater. Can't remember the last time I had one. But seeing these I had to have one. Great bark and very tender. Tasted like brisket on a bone. If this is how they're supposed to be done, I'll have more please. A So I'd say all things considered, until franklins can do something about the wait, you'll find me at la Barbecue.
