Year after year, the guy plays hard. Fights for every loose ball. Seems to help his team win. This all results in great, efficient stats. I feel like he's always a top 10 PF, though never a top 5 PF. That's an incredible feat to sustain for 8 seasons. In his last 5 seasons, dude averages over 18ppg, 10 reb, 51% from the field and 78% from FT line. Also an important stat for a big man IMO: he averages more assists than TO's. Does anyone else think he should be getting more props than he does?
Good stats on the offensive end, but...his defense is atrocious. From the link above: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/z3xPq8oIjPc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The only reason he runs back to the other side of the court after the Warriors score a basket is to make sure he stays in shape.
He is actually getting plenty of recognition for how good he's playing, as much as a small market player can get.
Reminds me of Troy Murphy who also played for the GSW. A guy that on paper looked liked he helped your team win, but never does.
i think he's more useful than Troy Murphy, his offense is truly great. but getting selected to an all star game while Steph Curry and Marc Gasol sit at home = overrating
That picture defies logic. I believe even entirely open jumpers in the 15-20 ft range can't reach 50+% status, assuming it's done in a game setting. Chair defense > David Lee defense.
I have watched David Lee play since he was on the Knicks. Dude is almost Stat bad on defense.... If anything he is overrated. People actually used to call him a useless stat padder.
I also laughed when people said David Lee was better than Blake Griffin earlier this season. BG: PER 23.7, W/S 48 .219, Off Rting 115, D Rting 100. David Lee: PER 19.3, WS 48 .143, Off Rting 110, D Rting 105. David Lee has gaudy raw stats since he plays heavy minutes while BG plays less minutes since the Clippers are deep.
Besides his No-D philosophy this guy is underrated. Interestingly, the Knicks should have kept him and he would NOT be underrated but giving him up means they will ensure he is NOT overrated (see: J Lin). Oh, y'gotta heart Noo Yawk!
