I like the actions and concept of it. Its very 80s'ish, just random intense imagery put on screen for entertainment and amusement, analyzing make its worse. But I just don't like THE NAME ITSELF, too misattributed, so I can't take to it fully. Any other array of songs or generic names coulda been used to validate it. G. Dep Comments On “Harlem Shake” Craze; “It Ain’t Defining Harlem” http://allhiphop.com/2013/02/14/exc...e-craze-it-ain-defining-harlem/?asid=4ddfee63 Would prefer Harlem culture be about fun, and NOT be about being criminals and prisoners. Though I agree, its not "Harlem". You might as well call it the Houston Rockets Shake or the DJ Screw or something. (And yeah though I know its TOTALLY UNINTENTIONAL and not done with any bad intent, don't like some of the "gentrification" involved. But what do teenagers from Australia know, so I'm just being a party pooper. )
Thats when its funny to me, bunch of dumb kids getting together doing stupid sh**, in a setting yourself on fire "Unsorted" forum kinda way Isnt this thing kinda what the flash-mob craze was about? Congregating together for random silliness? I'll try to think of this as at-home flash mobbing, so I don't get too agitated with it and despise humanity.
It is just PLANKING 2.0 Heck . . . If The Office was still one. . i'd expect them to have an episode next year on it Rocket River

I was at this "version" on Sunday morning... they told us all to do things and I was all "Dude, they're doing this all wrong... it's supposed to be all of us doing something else, one dude in a helmet, and then we switch to doing it after..." and I even told a dude next to me "if they were to put the camera up on the stands, you could see all of us better"... but a manager heard me and didn't even think to tell the "director" guy who was filming it. I give it a 4 in a scale of 1-10. <object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EdK9yH7FNQ4?hl=en_US&version=3&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EdK9yH7FNQ4?hl=en_US&version=3&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
I don't like the large crowd scenes. The ones I find funniest are the smaller groups where you can clearly see each person doing some different, goofy move. The big crowds just looks like the stands at a football game or something.
I see so many people saying this trend is stupid. Yeah, it is. But that's what's so funny about it. It's a bunch of people, all over the place, getting together and acting silly, if only for a few seconds. I think that's pretty awesome, on some level. Besides, who says humor has to be high-brow: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/q0zGXZa2dG0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5hCFdTz_CAg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This was posted on reddit today. It fits the music so well. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/4vqnSwTXAAc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Agree, for a slight different reason. The appeal of it is you can RELATE SOME to it. In a way like "ME & MY FRIENDS have ALWAYS thought of STUPID stuff like that too!", so you can think of stuff too. The big crowds is too impersonal, making it into a trendy popularity party instead of random do-it-yourself fun. Because there can be something pre-existing & already specifically defined that its drawing from, that can start you off on a wrong impression of what it is. Or, some people all easily "offended" can think its taking away from what was already established. Like: When you think "Houston country", you think of something specific. When you see "Houston country boogie", you're thinking its gonna maybe include that specific thing, or be related to it. When you see its a bunch of unconnected silliness but its still basically stealing the name, instead of taking to the activity you might be like "What the F**K is this?" and never give it another chance lol. (But its not like its teams taking Native Indian names & mascots negatively misrepresenting their heritage, so its not so big a deal)
