The picture is changing, and the gap is narrowing. <table border="0"> <tr><td colspan="5" align="center" >Point Guards' PER, Season 2012-13</td></tr> <tr bgcolor="#0069B9";font style="color:#ffffff;"><th>Player</th><th>as of Ocr. 31</th> <th>as of Dec. 31</th> <th>as of Jan. 31</th> <th>as of Feb. 6</th> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td align="right">Kyle Lowry</td><td align="center">25.47</td> <td align="center">21.92</td> <td align="center">21.26</td> <td align="center">20.43</td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#eeeeee"><td align="right">Goran Dragic</td><td align="center">20.19</td> <td align="center">18.50</td> <td align="center">17.51</td> <td align="center">17.80</td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td align="right">Jeremy Lin</td><td align="center">15.07</td> <td align="center">14.69</td> <td align="center">14.34</td> <td align="center">14.75</td> </tr><tr bgcolor="#0069B9";font style="color:#ffffff;"><td align="left">Gap</td><td align="center">10.40</td> <td align="center">7.23</td> <td align="center">6.92</td> <td align="center">5.68</td> </tr></table>
PER is such a flawed statistic. Rewards volume shooting at a bad percentage and doesn't account for defense. If Lin decided to chuck 20 shots per game at 39% his PER would go up.
That proves the stat is misleading rather than Lin is getting worse. If you actually watched all Rockets games this season, even Lin-hater will agree that Lin is better than beginning of the season.
how is Lowry's PER so much higher if their stats are nearly identical? Lowry has an extra point, Lin with an extra assist/steal, fg% almost identical as well as rebounding. Of course it doesnt take into account Lowry has sat for how many games this year..
correct lin is getting better...his total stats for the season have nearly all matched gorans or exceeded them...his %s have evenend off.....so for him to have a PER for the season anywhere near these guys means hes is getting better. They have been fairly consistent. Lin started off horrible. I think the last half of the season you will have a 14-15 point, 7+ assists with 33% 3p , 45% FG, 78% FT while being top in steals in the entire NBA with rondo out. Not to mention above average rebounder. Extremely solid numbers for first year as a starter. He still has a ton of upside as well...and his game is not based on athleticism its on BBALL IQ and craftiness. Which means he could play into his late 30s and be effective.
also lin has the work ethic to improve his 3pt shot. All it takes is reps and offseason work. Remember lowry came in a terrible 3pt shooter....and turned it around in 1 years time. see: 09-10 HOU 68 0 24.3 0.397 0.272 0.827 1.3 2.3 3.6 4.5 0.9 0.1 1.71 2.54 9.1 10-11 HOU 75 71 34.2 0.426 0.376 0.765 1.2 2.9 4.1 6.7 1.4 0.3 2.11 2.76 13.5 so lowrys first have getting 25-30 minutes per game he was 9 pts a game, 28% 3pt , .397% FG % ... I think we have a lot to look forward to......
No more please If you were Rockets's fan then you should know by now we all have to endure a lot of pain to be one, but the reward is always sweet remember " How sweet it is". Beside being a youngest team in the NBA we still have a lot to learn it might take a year or two to be there but no matter what we are always bleeding "RED".
PER is a per minute stat. Lowry leads Lin in 3pt percentage, ftas, scoring, rebounding, assists, turnovers, and free throw percentage on a per minute basis. Lin leads in steals per minute and 2pt efficiency. Blocks are even. If anything, PER underestimates how much better Lowry has been because it doesn't give as much a benefit to his efficiency. I still like Lin's potential, but he isn't working well with Harden, yet.
So basically the bottom tier of compact cars? Not saying they haven't been good cars in the past but these 3 new models are inferior to almost anything else in their class.
