I think that Brady's superbowls come with a huge asterisk because of:

    1. spygate.
    2. The tuck rule.

I absolutely, positively agree. At his best, I've never seen a QB do more with less. Those teams he won conference titles with before he won Super Bowls had no business being there, but for him.

He was mobile...he could run and get you yardage...could beat you deep...and could kill you short. He made plays happen. He is the epitome of a playmaker at that position.

Talk about how times have changed.

Elway had a career completion percentage of 56.9 and QBR of 79.9. He never threw 30 TDs, and usually didn't reach 20. Only in 1993 did he ever lead the league in a major stat (completions & yards).

Why Tom Brady is the greatest ever?

He is 136-39 as a starting QB, plus 17-6 in the postseason. He's been to 5 SBs, winning 3. He's led the league in completion percentage (1), TDs (3), yards (2), & QBR (2). All-time record for passing TDs in a season. 2nd all-time for yards in a season.

i say if steve young whoi has one of the highest playoff ratings didnt have to play behind montana he would be on top. I also agree with madmax, given what he had to work with elway was a beast. Juicystream how old are you. Im pretty sure you saw prime elway. Pull your head out your stats dude. The broncos were competitive every year. Every oiler fan remembers fourth and fifteen. That was before buffalo. Qbs are putting up much higher stats. Oh btw i have to give brady the nod over joe cool as much as it hurts.

If I had to pick from a pool of the following QBs, I'd be happy with any:

    Brett Favre
    Joe Montana
    Steve Young
    Tom Brady
    Peyton Manning

QBs I could see being in the same discussion soon:
    Aaron Rogers
    Drew Brees

    This is where stats fail...context.

I saw John Elway put teams on his back that had no business going to the Super Bowl. I don't care what you tell me about his numbers, honestly. It was an entirely different era...and the fact he didn't play with a real Pro Bowl caliber skill player on offense until Sharpe and Davis contributed to supressed statistics.

If I had to win one game against a great team. I would pick little manning every time. The dude is clutch.

I said specifically in my post that times have changed, because I know how great Elway is considered. I know how ludicrous Marino's numbers were, and they aren't that spectacular aside from 84 compared to today.

And McCaffrey/Smith at the end too. No surprise those teams won SBs.

Brady had Troy Brown/Deion Branch/David Patten for half his career.
