How did Delfino not have an offer better than 1yr/$3mil+team option?

His signing pre Harden was a decent pick up for a 25-30 win team. After the Harden trade and with the team chemistry rolling, he is the perfect pick up. Kinda crazy how that all worked out!

He's way too streaky. Surprise the Bucks didn't want to resign him since he played well at the end of last season. I guess they have too many guards,

Every year after the summer trade season and the signing of the rookies, Morey uses the rest of the cap space available to the Rockets. Cap room below the salary cap isn't the most effective use of that asset, so whatever space is available is used on cheap, mostly non-guaranteed contracts or contracts that have no guarantees past beyond one year. A lot of this is used on undrafted players/D-league players/ (e.g. Greg Smith, Scott Machado, Beverly, etc..), and if the opportunity presents itself it can be used on a veteran (e.g. Dalembert, Delfino, the attempt to hang on to Hayes last year).

This is an effective use of space because, in the case of the minimum salary players, there is only upside due to their contracts being non-guaranteed. If they're good, the contract isn't cancelled. If they're not, they're cut. In the case of the veterans it seems that guys who are a reasonably safe bet to be good, desirable players are signed. Those guys either live up to their contract and can be held onto if a playoff run is in order, as is the case with Delfino, or they can be traded for draft picks, as Dalembert was. Worst case scenario their salary isn't on the books past the current season.

It's the same tactic Morey has used since he's been in town: minimize risk and maximize reward wherever possible. Also, there's been a pretty good culture of "investing" in players in order to flip them for greater value than they were acquired for.

But yeah, Delfino didn't get better offers likely because all the teams that need a Delfino type are capped out. The teams with space apparently haven't figured out how to creatively use cap space to create new value the way Morey has.

Morey is like the guy in the casino betting on tilt and finally got luck to turn...hitting everything he bet on...

This offseason we started with a team full of PF's...and remember when one of those guys(Juan Johnson) was like: "i dont wanna play in Houston"...lol...

Im happy for Morey...a really good GM that had so much bad luck starting off in Houston...We all know that if things didnt pan out the way it did...he would be looking for a new gig elsewhere(he wouldve gotten it ASAP)...

We were all faced with the possibility of being in 2-3 years of rebuilding basketball, but how fortunes have changed...and Harden turned out to be Morey's AA's

Could Delfino be a candidate for 6th man of the year?

Not as long as J.R. Smith and Jamal Crawford are playing this year.

Delfino has been Argentina's backup point guard/point forward for many years. So of course he has some play making ability.

Ah, true story. Delfino would have to average 5+ 3's every game he plays if he wants to get it, haha. Oh man, JCrawford is doing amazing this year as so is J.R Smith.

What about being the finest award? Parsons and Delfino both can get it! Haha.

Because, he doesn't have all the athleticism or flair other guys have, but mostly because he doesn't get a lot of hype around the league by the media (which is why you didn't know who he was). I bet if you ask all the pros around the league about him, they would say he's underrated and is a pros pro. They would also say he can be very lethal.

It's a contract year for TD, not for Delfino. Delfino is working to keep his current salary, because Rockets have a team option. If he plays well, the Rockets keep him for this amount, or trade him at this salary. If he sucks, they cut him loose. The fact that he actually agreed to such a blatantly team-friendly contract is why I was surprised in the first place.
