Recently I noticed a crescent moon symbol on the top bar of my Android phone. I didn't think much of it other than "that appears to be something different". Yesterday around 6:00 PM my phone started ringing at a very low volume and sounded like a typical landline ring. It continued to do this for 20-30 minutes until I restarted it. Prior to restarting I had a look at running apps and saw nothing unusual. I even killed off most of them to no avail. Also, I checked the timer, alarm and stopwatch and none of them were active.

Any thoughts as to what that was? I googled and didn't see anything relevant to the crescent moon or the incessant ringing. I also found a page showing Android icons that did not contain the moon.

And, in case MadMax is reading this thread, I will beat him to it and say "That's no moon".

Maybe it was some profile with low volume ringing or somehow you activated night mode (no idea if there is such thing).

Maybe state what model is your HTC?

Only moon symbol I've seen is iOS's Do Not Disturb function.

take a screenshot and post it here.

Correct method is Power Button and Volume Down button simultaneously might work

 I have a couple questions before I can assist you:

What company brand and model is your phone?

Have you read the manual?

After the restart, the crescent moon went away. It might have had nothing to do with the incessant low ring, but it was just an anomaly I had not noticed before and was thinking it might be related to some app or activity. But, if you can imagine an android phone screen and can imagine a crescent moon that is the same size as the other icons across the top of the screen, then you have a mental image of the screen shot.

Thanks, but I already looked at those icons and didn't see it. It was in line with the others. From right to left, time, battery, signal strength, wifi, GPS, then crescent moon.

    Sprint.

There is nothing in the manual or anywhere on google where i have been able to find the crescent moon shaped icon that mysteriously appeared and then went away after I did a restart.

    EDIT:

In addition, I have gone through and started every application on my phone and have not reproduced the crescent moon icon.

I have the same phone (although I'm rooted and running CyanogenMod10), but have never seen this.

Right. I never saw it until perhaps yesterday or the day before. I thought I had inadvertently set some sort of timer based on the incessant ringing, but have searched high and low to no avail.

Sprint is the carrier, man, but I'm still wondering what model phone and what manufacturer company brand made it. You still haven't answered my questions.
