I think Marc got to go to highschool in Memphis, so he actually had to play like a real big man. Not that soft Euro ball like big brother did.
100 pounds difference pre-NBA. If you are as fat and immobile as Marc was in Europe, it's hard to stay relevant unless you bruise. Young Pau looked more like Durant. Also, Marc went through the American HS system, while Pau is a pure Barcelona/Spain product. Spanish sports system in general (and especially Barca) tries to teach an all around game and multiple positions, rather than sticking a kid into a specific role.
I think "polar opposites" is a bit strong considering they are both 7 foot tall Spanish men who play center in the NBA and have the last name "Gasol". I think that makes them pretty similar actually
Little known fact: Mike Conley is actually the third Gasol brother. He is the polar opposite of the other two.
Because people are deceived easily and will latch on to whatever idiots tell them. Pau is one tough SOB. And he has been screwed not playing center in LA since their last championship. Bynum and Howard.
Seriously, this. It's disturbing how easily swayed the public is. Pau is no Rodman but calling him soft is ridiculous.
Damn. I learn something new everyday about that crazy Gasol brothers. I'm definently pitching a "Keeping Up with the Gasols" show. It'll be a HIT
I agree with both. Dirk is one of my favorite players, he's a finesse player, but he plays through a lot compared to most stars. People like Doug Stewart think otherwise because he plays on the perimeter. As for Pau, I agree Marc is more physical. Pau isn't as soft as he's made out to be. It was always held against him when he struggled in the playoffs. When he held his own against Dwight and other front lines in the playoffs he still couldn't escape that label.
