Does anyone understand the choice of Meatloaf as NBA All Star Week End entertainment? Boy, he sure captured the spirit of 21st Century NBA B-Ball at its best. Wasn't Styx, Survivor or Eddie Money or any other perennial NBA favorites available? Maybe the league will go modern next year and get A Flock of Seagulls.
Music Legends Highlight Entertainment at All-Star Saturday Night Presented by America Online NEW YORK, Feb. 3, -- As part of the retro theme of NBA All-Star 2003, Gloria Gaynor and Meat Loaf will take us back in time with their legendary sound as they highlight the entertainment for NBA All-Star Saturday Night presented by America Online on February 8 at Philips Arena in Atlanta. NBA Legends Magic Johnson and Dominique Wilkins, along with Hollywood stars Ashton Kutcher and Frankie Muniz, will lead a star-studded line-up of participants taking part in the All-Star Saturday Night competitions, with a special appearance by music legend Isaac Hayes. NBA All-Star Saturday Night -- featuring the 989 Sports Skills Challenge, the Jeep All-Star Hoop-It-Up, the 1-800-CALL-ATT Shootout and the Sprite Rising Stars Slam Dunk, -- will be televised live beginning at 8:00 p.m. (ET) on TNT and Rogers Sportsnet in Canada, and broadcast on ESPN Radio. Continuing with the retro theme, the Hoop-It-Up participants will don retro NBARewind uniforms by Nike while NBA Legends and former Slam Dunk Champions Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Dominique Wilkins, Spud Webb, and Dee Brown will act as Slam Dunk judges for the evening. Hayes will serve as on-court commentator during the Jeep All-Star Hoop-It-Up, in which Wilkins and Johnson will participate. Kutcher, co-star of the box-office hit Just Married and the popular sitcom “That’s 70’s Show,” and Muniz, star of “Malcolm in the Middle,” will also participate in this three-on-three tournament featuring two teams consisting of an NBA player, a WNBA player, an NBA Legend and a celebrity. All-Star Saturday Night’s musical entertainment will feature performances by Gloria Gaynor, who will sing her classic disco hit “I Will Survive,” while Rock ‘n’ Roll great, Meat Loaf, will motivate the crowd leading into the Slam Dunk competition with his song “Bat Out of Hell.” R & B recording artist Nivea will perform the U.S. national anthem with international musician Sass Jordan singing the Canadian anthem. Gaynor is currently on a worldwide tour promoting her new Logic/BMG Records CD, I Wish You Love, which has already spawned a #1 hit on Billboards dance and contemporary charts with her next single, “Let It Rain,” set to be released in March. Meat Loaf’s first album, Bat Out of Hell is one of the top 5 largest selling albums in history, selling 30 million copies worldwide, with sales of 16 million in the U.S. alone. For the first time in 8 years Meat Loaf will be releasing a new studio record titled, Couldn’t Have Said it Better, to be released Internationally this March with a North American album release and world tour to follow later in 2003.
