For real, for as much as folks b****ed about JVG's offense being simplistic, his defenses were always near top of the league no matter who he had out there.

If we had JVG, the Rockets D wouldnt be as horrible as it is and thats a fact.

oh yeah....and what did yall really expect? a team full of rookies and 2nd/3rd year players is gonna be inconsistent. That is also just a fact of life in the NBA.

Uggh, JVG would be awful for development of rookies.

    Development > defensive consistency

Keep McHale and let him teach Patterson, Dmo, Jones etc how to play the game.

JVG spent a lot more resources on defense than offense. He had fewer guys out on break. If players didn't expend a lot of energy on defense, they didn't play.

Defensive numbers would be better, but offense would be worse. I don't know who would be better overall.

The problem with JVG is he'll sacrifice offensive efficiency to better his defense, which is to limit opponent's transition offense. How? Limit his team's turnovers. He'll prefer a P&R system or a dominant post up game, which is great, but he wants to accomplish the goal with the least amount of passing as necessary. The problem with that is ball movement is almost required to create an efficient offense.

Yes and no. Players want to take shots they are comfortable with by your own assertion. So Morey has targeted players that are comfortable and more often take the type of shots that his model says should be more successful. Delfino is an excellent example of this. He wants to take layups and threes. Shawn Livingston not being on the team and Tony Douglas being on the team also fits this this model. The coaches can only coach the players the GM assembles.

Morey does this while at the same time targeting cap space and other assets that are required to continue to move the team in the direction he wants to take it.

I am not trying to make this into a Morey fest. But I think his contribution on the court is a much bigger then just W/L but how the team plays to a large extent.

Great post. No coaching debate? Or is it an accepted fact that they suck?
