Hi. The new Zone defense has been in effect for a while now. Do you think it has helped or hampered the quality of play in the NBA? I kind of miss the old rules myself.

Well, it made the Mavs a good team on defense and made the Rockets suck on offense when going against the zone.

the change of rule doesn't make a difference because defensive players can't stay in the paint for longer than 3 seconds if they aren't guarding their men.

    Boo. Bad rule.

Also, there SHOULD BE a three pass rule -- no shot, other than breakaway without three passes preceeding shot, minimum.

I like the rule change. It gives defensive strategy a place in the game. It also pushes the NBA game more like a team sport. After decades of man-defense-only, is it really surprising how the NBA became so individualistic? Anyone wonders why Francis dissed the Mavs for using the zone? Players like Francis have a hard time understanding basketball as a team sport.

I agree. If your fundamental (shooting and passing) is good enough, it doesn't really matter zone or no zone.
