I can't believe we actually have a choice now to pick either of the best centers in the game.

Howard... He'd attract more players and I don't like Bynum's bad knees....

Am excited to hear this; deal makes a lot of sense for all sides.

Quick question; can somebody please explain to me why the Magic have such a hard-on for sending Howard to the Nets? Their draft picks are garbage, their best possible player to send back is Brook Lopez, and he is hardly anything to shake a stick at. Are they trying to do Dwight a favor? Newsflash: He's been screwing your franchise around the entire second half of last season.

What are the Nets offering that the Lakers and Rockets cannot match?

Dwight's the better player, and I'd be 100% happy with either one... but I'd rather have Bynum. There's a better chance that he signs an extension.

Funny, I was thinking the exact opposite. Morey is smart enough to know that if he can just get Dwight here anything can happen. Remember CP3 decided not to resign with the Clippers so he'll be a free agent next year and we should still have plenty of money to sign him. I would also look for Morey to try to make some kind of trade with Atlanta (depending on what he has left) to try and get JSmooth here. And we would definately resign Courtney Lee. So filling Dwight with a team of friends with a fat contract just might do it.

Either one would be outstanding, either to build around or to use as the centerpiece in a trade for another star who fits better. Honestly, though, I'd rather shoot for the moon with Howard. He's a top-5 player who circumstances have shaken loose, the kind of guy who's perfect to build a champion around.

Worst-case scenario, it's likely we'll be able to flip him at the deadline for a package not so much worse than what we'll give up to get him.

Can't answer it in a poll. The answer is like this:

    1. Howard if he promises an extension.
    2. Bynum if he promises an extension.
    3. Howard if he won't promise an extension.
    4. Bynum if he won't promise an extension.

Be reasonable people. Think about who will stay here and want to play for you. Its Bynum if you are gonna give up everything for the second best center in the entire league since Yao left.

    This is a tough question.

Bynum has had more injury issues, but Howard has had more recent issues. Howard is the better player, but Bynum wants to be here, is younger, and is more skilled offensively.

Overall I say Bynum. I think the Rockets would give up less and/or have to take on fewer bad contracts in order to get Bynum as compared to a solo deal for Howard.

Also, and more importantly, if we get Howard we are immediately in a desperate win now mode which may cause us to mortgage off the future and sell low on the talented young players on the team in order to surround Dwight with win now veterans (see Gay for Battier trade). But, if we get Bynum, who is younger and seems willing to let a team build around him, then we can still go with the youth movement but do so with a great young centerpiece.

But Howard has already said he won't and was outraged when Houston was mentioned. Bynum said he wants to play here. So that's mostly worked out already.

Why pay the same price for the second best player in the trade? Both are expiring contracts and so what if Bynum says he will re-sign. He could change his mind just like Dwight. You take the same risk with both players.

The Lakers have no one else to add to the trade. They already promised Nash they would not trade Gasol. Do you really want the Rockets to face Kobe, Howard, Gasol and Nash four times each season?

They had half of Gasol and half of Bynum because Kobe wouldn't pass the ball. And they had a crappy PG and crappy SF play...

The Houston Rockets have joined the Los Angeles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets as the most serious potential trade partners with the Orlando Magic on a Dwight Howard deal, according to sources close to the process.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Rockets are discussing a multitude of trade scenarios with the Magic, offering to serve both as the team that would acquire Howard in a direct trade between the clubs and also as a third team that would participate in a trade that lands Howard with the Lakers and brings All-Star center Andrew Bynum to Houston.

The Rockets, in the latter scenario, would push to acquire Bynum from the Lakers while furnishing the Magic with a package of future draft picks and cap-friendly contracts to set Orlando up for a full-fledged roster reload. Sources confirmed a HoopsWorld.com report that the three-team trade construction that sends Bynum to the Rockets instead of the Magic -- with Orlando said to be concerned about its ability to re-sign Bynum for the long term -- gained traction Tuesday.

The key elements of the three-team proposal, sources said, call for the Lakers to acquire Howard and the Rockets -- realizing their longrunning quest to acquire a top-20 player -- to take back the mercurial Bynum as he enters the final year of his contract.

It's believed that Houston would have to absorb the contract of Magic swingman Jason Richardson and perhaps another unpalatable contract or two to complete a trade directly with the Magic for Howard or to get Bynum. Central to the Rockets' offer is a 2013 first-round draft pick that they'll soon acquire from the Toronto Raptors as part of a verbally-agreed trade last week that will send guard Kyle Lowry to Toronto. Houston also has coveted veterans Luis Scola and Kevin Martin to sweeten any trade proposal.

It's been an open secret for months, meanwhile, that the Rockets were willing to trade for a player of Howard's or Bynum's caliber with no assurance that either one will sign an extension as opposed to becoming a free agent in 2013.

Houston's posture, sources said, remains one of confidence that any top-20 player it can acquire will be convinced to stay once he becomes part of the organization.

Sources say that new Magic general manager Rob Hennigan might feel more comfortable taking back a package of youngsters, recent draftees and future first-round draft picks -- while shedding some long-term salary as well -- than taking on Bynum as Howard's replacement and facing a similar challenge on convincing him to commit to the franchise long-term like the Magic have dealt with for months with Howard.
