Good for him. He's not consuming animal protein thats bad for you in the long run and just blows you up. He's now going to consume soy protein which is actually the type of protein we should be consuming. As humans, were supposed to have a plant-based diet. You actually can get good protein from many sources when you are vegan....

BTW i'm not vegan, but I should be!

He still down with fish? He'll be fine with fish and protein supplements. I know vegan means know fish, but people throw the term around all the time.

This may be true now, but in his playing days he actually did eat meat and lift weights -- it was all a big joke.

That's not true especially for men.

Soy protein contains a LOT of estrogen, which is obviously bad for men, and worse for athletes who need muscle.

There are some other studies that meat helps you gain testosterone especially red meat, which if you have in moderation you can get all the benefits. Adrian just needs to eat lean meat 3-4 times a week, and I think he'll get all the benefits from vegan diet + meat.

Most of the essential amino acids you need are from animal proteins

A good rule of thumb is GRAIN + LEGUME

Being vegan is not healthy at all, but he's a huge guy so it will take him a while to see when enough is enough.:)

I'm not against or for veganism. It's just funny how it's such a sensitive topic haha. It's almost like debating religion!

LOL @ all the health experts on the board.

The trainers will find the right diet for him. As long as he gets enough calories and protein, it shouldn't be a problem. If he were a lineman, 6'6 300lbs, then I'd say he may have some issues. But for him, I can't see it hurting.

The Texans didn't give a multi-million dollar contract to some vegan puss. They gave it to a meat eating bad ass. Go back to eating meat Arian.

Whey protein is a derivative of milk. Soy protein is a complete protein, but studies are inclusive in deciding if negatively affects the endocrine system. He is a football player and most likely is producing more testosterone than you or I. Carbohydrates and fats are what fuel the body, which is abundant in a vegans diet. As long as he is consuming all the essential amino acids, he should do fine. Go texans

Which? I know for a fact all 8 essential amino acids can be obtained via plants.

I'm not a vegan or vegaterian by any means. In fact, I think eating meat is healthy, as long as you don't over do it, especailly red meat. Fish, especially, should be included in everyones diet. But, you can be healthy as a vegan, it just takes a lot of effort... But for a pro athelte who has someone else managing their meals, it shouldn't be a problem.

Beans and rice is the complete protein combo for a good chunk of the world.

    First World problem?

    You are so absolutely wrong.

#1 Animal protein is good for you
#2 Soy protein is not the type of protein you should be consuming.
#3 Humans are not meant to have a plant based diet.

    You are simply wrong.

I do not think that it is a good idea for Arian, but he is his own person, many people at one point or another have been vegans.
