Solomon's an idiot whether Morey is a genius or not. He's right that Morey shouldn't jeopardize the pursuit of a franchise player for role-players. It's debatable whether he's helped that pursuit any. In any case, the plan isn't genius until it works. And, it hasn't for years now.
Morey is a genius. Soloman is correct in pointing out the overreactors. I find it incredibly stupid for people to call for Morey's head as if he is the sole reason for not having a superstar. Morey is an above average GM and I believe it would be difficult to replace his expertise. He has shown to be a savvy trader, good drafter, and has good grasp on cap flexibility. People need to stop acting like the NBA is 2K. Deals are difficult to make and only a small percentage actually get done. Subjective value, owners, GMs, rivalries all conspire to prevent other teams from acquiring the necessary talent to win a championship. Morey believes that the first step in building a championship team is a foundation built on a superstar. Whether he acquires this player through the draft, free agency, or trade; Morey is positioning us to be ready to ponce in all 3 arenas once the opportunity becomes available. What's the point of having fancy walls when you don't have a good foundation? It sucks that we lost Lowry and Goran, but these guys weren't taking us anywhere without a superstar in the mix.
Solomon is right for a change, except on the date thing. Many of the posters on this board are hilarious. The moratorium opens at midnight and at 12:05 Am some posters are already screaming for Moreys head because he has not made five separate trades for HOF players in the 1st five minutes of the moratorium.
The point that Solomon is making is that Morey is a more of a public relations manager than a sports team manager. Morey manages people's expectations or in other words, Morey is more of a politican than sports team manager.
He's a damn idiot. Nowhere in there did he explain in detail what makes Morey a genius. Because Morey declines a 4th year player option he's a genius??? Solomon's kissing azz because he was once on the outs with the organization. Morey's just as much a idiot too
Isn't Scola the franchise super star player. Why don't people crown Scola and recognize his abilities. Afterall, Scola carried the team after Yao got hurt in the playoffs against the lakers in 09.
Your making his point exactly. Just because you are the best player on a team that does not make the play-offs does not mean you are untouchable. Insert the names of Kyle Lowry, Scola or Kevin Martin and it makes no difference; if one of those guys are your best player your team is in trouble. They are all just role players.
That's where you and I different in opinion of the definition of super star. To me a super star is a player that is the most consistent. Scola has been the most consistent player.
I think people have to change their definition of super star. Granted a lottery pick is hyped to do big things but it's the coaching and x's and o's IMO. I mean Lebron James has been a superstar from day one but Erick Spoelstra gave LBJ a game plan where Lebron only took shots inside the paint and he set up other players to take the shots that he used to take but instead those shots were open shots for his team-mates. Where is the coaching plan to get the talent on the right page to win?
