Do we stockpile and keep top 10 draft picks? Do we get Dwight? Is this all smoke and no fire? Give me your predictions

Picks are not going to help, at least right away, we need players....

My prediction is that we stand pat and pick at 14, 16, 18.
My hope is that we finally move up in the top 5 and go from there (either pick or trade for Howard/Smoove)

That's my feeling. I bet we trade our picks for a good veteran player or two, but it won't be anyone that we've been speculating on today.

I have been watching draft night since Rudy was a player. Very few Rocket's draft decisions have met with fan approval. Very few; that's my recollection. I am hoping for one of those rare exceptions, but expecting more of the same. However, if Morey picks three undersized forwards, I actually think I'm done.

We can't get Dwight and Deron and instead settle for Josh Smith and Pau Gasol. I weep.

I believe the Rockets will package the three 1st round picks they currently own along with some combo of Samuel Dalembert, Kyle Lowry, Kevin Martin and Patrick Patterson in some form or fashion and end up with two picks in the top 10. I'm thinking 5 for sure and most likely 8, but I could see us also making a play for the 7th or 6th pick with the amount of ammo we have. Then we make the offer to Orlando. The two top 10 picks and a player (out of the group I mentioned earlier) and maybe another player (Scola or Morris) for Dwight Howard. If Orlando bites then Morey got the guy he's been wanting for the past 2+ years now. If not then we use our picks to draft Drummond and Waiters and move forward with a team centered around those two, Dragic, Lee, Parsons, Morris and Motiejunas.

To extend this to free agency:

If the Dwight Howard trade occurs:

We let Dragic walk and pick up Lee's 3.5 million dollar option. Then we go hard at Williams. Get Morey and Dwight at his doorstep at the start of free angency and present the mother of all pitches. If this goes well then I would look towards cheap veteran free agents to fill the roster. After resigning Camby, my first targets would be Dooling to backup Deron and Redd to back up Lee and Parsons. Then if Scola is still on board that's the extent of my moves, but if he was moved I would go after Shelden Williams as well. I figure if we have Dwight and Deron on board, the veterans would be attracted to the Rockets and come here for a chance to win.

If this occurs this is what the 12/13 Rockets look like:
    (with Scola)

    Williams/Dooling
    Lee/Redd
    Parsons/Redd/Morris
    Scola/Motiejunas/Morris
    Howard/Camby/Motiejunas

    (without Scola)

    D.Williams/Dooling
    Lee/Redd
    Parsons/Redd/Morris
    S.Williams/Motiejunas/Morris
    Howard/Camby/Motiejunas

If Orlando dosen't bite and we draft the guys I mention then in free agency I would pick up Lee's option again and sign Dragic to a long term deal worth around 8-10 million per year. I also resign Camby. Still need a backup point guard. I would still want Dooling, but I doubt he would come to a rebuilding team at this point in his career. So then I just look for a servicable 14 minute per game backup point.

    12/13 Rockets under this direction:

    Dragic/FA PG
    Lee/Waiters
    Parsons/Morris
    Scola/Motiejunas/Morris
    Camby/Drummond/Motiejunas

Don't forget tears, anguish and lots of remorse.

The silver lining? Morey will be gone with the Howard wind.
