Since we are probably not flipping Bud to Minny for the purpose of picking up another rookie at 18, this is likely a moot point. Whether or not the 18th pick in this draft is an impact player looks to become the concern of a team other than the Rockets.

Just to entertain the discussion, however, the move might make sense even if the Rockets did keep the pick. This draft might have some interesting talent falling to that level — Sullinger, PJIII, etc..., and since Morris needs some meaningful minutes next season at the 3, Bud's position has become a bit stacked. What better time to roll the dice on a high risk-high reward prospect?

And how can you simply say that having 3 picks from 14 - 18 in this draft is nothing special at all? I wonder how many GMs would agree with you on that.

I traded him to Phoenix on my NBA2K12...after he spent the first season in the D-League...

3 picks puts us in great position...Dwight Howard, trade up or Rebuilding.

    This has made my night!

    Keep 'em coming Morey!

The comments by Budinger that no one is untradeable with Morey shouldn't be a big shock to anyone and superstar players shouldn't be discouraged by this. What is a GM with a middle of the pack team with no superstars suppose to do? Stand pat and sell that to the fans? Superstars should see that as a plus that as long as they play like superstars, Morey will try to surround them with the best available talent around them.

I didnt take that in a negative. Its pretty obvious what Morey's vision is to do, and they do a pretty good job of letting the young guys know that they are most likely going to make a big trade for a star player. Its not a negative thing to state the obvious.

Would you rather have a GM who thinks that Chase Budinger is the future of the Rockets, and the key to winning a championship?

But where Chase was picked is completely irrelevent to what we are trading today.

We are trading a solid NBA rotational player - and at 18 that would be about all you can expect to get back - MAYBE...

Again, if it leads to something more - great, if not, Minny wins.

Who cares what Budinger thinks, Morey took the risk he believed in him and gave him a chance, he should be forever grateful with the Rockets he now had a solid carreer in the nba for years to come.

not a great trade if was considered chase for #18 but will be a good move if it leads to something bigger. We now need some shooters (C Lee is acceptable here tho)

You also have to keep in mind that there were stretches in the season where a perfectly healthy Chase wouldn't even get into a game, or only play a few minutes. For one reason or another McHale didn't have much confidence in him to go with him game after game. So he was a solid rotational player for us at times, and a bench warmer at other times all in the same season.

id be alright with keeping the picks. the talent in the 6-18 range seems equivocal. i wouldnt mind any combination of these 3 tree

    terrence jones
    john henson
    jeremy lamb
    austin rivers
    kendall marshall
    perry jones
    jared sullinger
    tyler zeller
    terrence ross

also wouldnt mind dipping a little lower for miles plumlee. smart and athletic center.

Dwight obviously Rockets' dream target but sources say they'll pursue Atlanta's Josh Smith (and others) if ORL won't budge

some of you are misinterpreting/adding your own suppositions to that quote.

budinger didn't say "it's not a surprise, given the state of this team". he said "you kind of know with morey, no one is ever a lock with this team".

morey clearly is far behind the curve in the social game that a good gm should have. let's hope that he finally makes up for that and acquires dwight and keeps him around after this year.

It was a very good move for the Rockets. The other two first rounders have nothing to do with what we received for Bud. There is generally a very fine line between being a realist and a cynic.
