Hey guys, going to attempt to make some chicken quesadillas for dinner, and I figured I would go ahead and make some refried beans too. But this may be a one-off, depending on how it goes, so I am not going to go to a lot of trouble on the beans. So, while I know everybody will probably just say 'they all suck!', I am just hoping maybe some of you can recommend some canned refried beans that are actually decent. Or maybe what to add to the canned to make it actually good?
Get some ranch style beans, drain most of the liquid, then cook and mash them in the pot. Better than any pre-made re-fried beans IMO and you can say that you made them yourself .
There used to be a ranch style refried bean can that i used to buy. I haven't seen it sold at any of the grocery stores i've been to recently but that was always my favorite.
I buy El Paso when I can find it. If not I just buy whatever I see because to me it all tastes the same. I prefer refried black really.
I used to think all refried beans were awful until i had these, which are really good for canned beans. Add some bacon grease to them if you have any.
Get whole canned black beans.. Dice up some onions and sweat them in butter of evoo, add some peppers depending on how much spice you want. (serranos fully). Add cumin, a little oregano and toast it, add minced garlic last, cook til fragrant. Add the whole black beans cook til warm, throw it in a food processor, then cook puree in a little bit of butter. Done. Add some cilantro and cotija chz to set it off at the end...
Get El Paso beans or any decent brand and just buy some Taco seasoning mix and throw that in there, does a world of difference.
He's making chicken enchiladas... white people love chicken enchiladas. You meant - white? And yeah, just add seasoning to a can of refried beans. It'll be good.
Step 1: Buy a can of beans. Step 2: Add bacon grease, onions, jalapenos. Step 3: Heat until the bacon grease/fat reaches at least 165F. Longer cooking softens the jalapenos and onions. Step 4: Add a few fresh diced onions and some fresh cilantro. Step 5: Eat.
LOL that's what I meant to type. I was on a conference call as I typed that. Y'all jabronis typing from your mom's basement don't have that problem.
Rosarita refried beans, cook in bacon grease, add a good bit of cumin, a little chili powder, and a little chicken stock or broth to thin it.
I bought some of this, some El Paso, and also some regular Ranch Style Beans to mash.. I will try one each time I make the dillas.. First one I used was the Goya. They were good, I actually cheated and added some Chipotle Tabasco Sauce into it, because I didn't have any bacon grase or anything, but the tabasco really added a nice smoky kick. Little grated cheese on top, worked out really well. Next one will probably be the El Paso ones.. Thanks for all the suggestions guys
Gebhardt beans are my favorite. The yellow can, you just gotta cook em up correctly, otherwise they'll taste like the can. But when done right, they are the best ones. Also, strangely enough, the Great Value kind from Wal-Mart are delicious. yes I am Mexican.
^ I agree. They are around 80-something cents at Wal-Mart or Fiesta. Try the JalapeƱo-flavored ones for that extra kick (not Inception-related).
