Pretty sobering, really unhealthy to expect 10 win seasons year in and year out. Incidentally I hear Rice has an auto-bid to the Get A Salaried Job in the Field of Your Major Bowl.
I would also imagine a lull of having to spend another year in conference USA instead of just moving to the big east.
If Charles Sims wins Offensive player of the year, no way we finish that low. I expect UCF and SMU to be the biggest threats, and although they lost a lot of seniors Southern Miss should be competitive, but Tulsa and Marshall aren't going to scare anybody. Our defense doesn't worry me at all, lots of good returning starters. What worries me is Piland and the receivers. Lots of new blood there. Need them to keep the turnovers down. Phil Steele has us as the highest ranked team in the conference at #32, right behind TAMU and Auburn. He's usually money.
Some good news concerning the new football stadium http://www.uhcougars.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/061212aad.html
http://www.uhcougars.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/061412aad.html most of the schedule is set now. thank jeebus someone had the foresight to put the games in late summer after 5PM.
Just a rehash of the comparisons to the new Thundercoog logo from a couple months back. It was compared to many schools, but I think South Alabama might be the closest thing to the Thundercoog! Just thought I would pass along!
Most of the people who picked in the pre season know very little about the teams, and basically pick based on how many starters a given team has coming back. UH lost most of their WR's, but there are plenty more on the roster and we should be fine. This league sucks so bad we should win 8 games on accident.
Athlon has us as the 70th ranked team in the country and 2nd in C-USA to #66 ranked UCF. It will be nice to leave C-USA which, while certainly not good...has never been QUITE as bad as the pundits seem to think. I don't actually think teams like FIU, Arkansas State and Navy could beat us on the field..but all are ranked higher. Eat em up, Coogs.
BREAKING: UH coach Tony Levine announces O.C. Mike Nesbitt has resigned and Travis Bush will take over play-calling duties THANK GOD.
That was a short stay. Mark Berman @MarkBermanFox26 [rquoter]UH assistant coach Travis Bush, who takes over play-calling duties for the Cougars, moves from running backs to coaching quarterbacks. UH Director of Player Personnel Ken McClintock will now coach running backs for the Cougars.[/rquoter]
Defense did about as good as most we've had over the past 10 years, if not better. Offense gave them zero help with field positioning and TOP. We had 7 drives in the 1st half, they totaled 2 minutes and 45 seconds and resulted in 4 punts and 1 turnover deep in our redzone. Despite all that, they kept the game within 2 scores for the majority of the time. The defense, though nothing to write home about, was not the problem.
If they don't start playing better Mack and Levine need to be fired as well. This is all on them. Mack for hiring the cheapest coach he could find and then having Levine penny pinch when putting together a staff. Its a first time coach and you are hiring an OC who had never coached at this level and expect him to be capable of running one of the most successful offensive teams in college football. Levine needs to go because he had 9 months to figure out this guy was not the guy to run the offense who he promised to everyone wouldn't change at all and he lets this nimrod do just that.
This is just typical UH. Fun while it lasted! Briles was an incredible hire, Sumlin was a very good hire, Levine was a WTF hire from the start. I felt similar when they hired James Dickey. Next thing you know they will ditch the passing game, switch to something more conventional, and try to beat teams with superior talent by playing them at their own game. I've seen this story played out before. Paging Kim Helton...
Agree. Stick with the Air Raid. We've proven on multiple occassions that is Houston football. And the truth is, we are the eptiomy of a track meet. That's the type of athelte we are able to recruit and the air raid offense has proven to be the best fit for us. Hope they stick to it because we win everytime we employ it, and it's a lot of fun for the fans too. We could shift gears, but I've seen no evidence we can play with the big boys that way. They are, just flat out bigger and stronger.
