So a first time NBA player doesnt have to join via draft? If PT is main concern, we're outta the question with current roster.
He went undrafted last year. Once you enter the draft and go undrafted you're free to sign with any team. (See Timofey Mozgov.)
Russian weather, Minny weather? Snow big deal, I'd guess. What I cannot fathom is if this guy is all that why or how Brooklyn would allow any other team get him?
No disrespect to Shved, but I think the Rockets have bigger fish to fry in trades first that will require the need to take on alot of salary this Summer. I think they should actively pursue him, but if they project this guy to be just a role player type in the NBA, I would stay out of an international bidding war. I trust that they have done their homework enough with this guy to tell whether they think he is Ricky Rubio special or Juan Carlos Navarro special. Its all about how that player is going to transition to the NBA. They pay people alot of money in this organization to be able to tell the difference between the two.
Because you'd have to use your draft pick on him, whereas Shved is free to sign? It also doesn't necessarily have to be one or the other.
Assuming these two guys are roughly equal, one reason to go after Shved is that he does not cost you a draft pick, which can be used on another player or in another transaction.
All reports are that they have scouted him as well. I think he's much higher on the Rocket's draft board then other teams have him at. This might be a case where if he starts slipping, Morey might talk Les into buying an early second round pick to get him, or potentially even trading back to get him. If I had to guess I think he will end up going around 20 in the first round, but there is always a chance that some other players, especially international players, could rise up quick on teams draft boards out of nowhere. I think this years Addidas camp alone will throw in a couple unknown names into the mix.
The guy really knows how to sell himself to the pros. From a recent interview asking him about his high 3pt shooting of late: "I don't think that the shot is my strongest asset! I like best to be in pick-and-roll situations; I like to pass the ball. It just happened that I have good shooting percentages in the Euroleague. If you look at my stats in other tournaments, I am not shooting as well. I can just say that it's great that I am making 50% of my shots" So his best thing on the floor is passing out of pick-and-roll situations? How hard is that? Hey at least he's honest about his abilities. Like the bizarro T-Will.
No, It's because he went undrafted. Many european players are pros from their mid teens. That doesn't change anything.
In the last few years the Rockets have desperately tried to get a playmaking wing who can run the PnR. Chase and T-Will disappointed in that area.
Please to give me just this much toothpaste? EDIT: Ah, damn, someone beat me to the teeth jokes. Carry on. SECOND EDIT: This writeup is fairly old, but the kid shows some promise as a 2/1 in the NBA. http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Alexey-Shved-1097/
I watched that video and all I could focus on was the hair!!! Thinking this guy could be Scola's best bud. And with the hair he would get many charging calls... If a breeze blew in his direction and he fell he would draw a charge. Why? Because of the hair!!!
