Most of all, Evans with their potential draft pick could get them an even higher pick or higher quality player. Realistically, where the Rockets stand today, they aren't in position to get any high picks or perennial all-star caliber player, unless a team is really trying to dump their superstar. I wouldn't sell Evans short, either @ REEKO_HTOWN. He'd actually be a pretty good guard in the right system or with a no-nonsense coach or star player that would make him give up the rock more. He could also start easily for the Rockets, if Martin doesn't come back.
And what is wrong with that? Maybe the Rockets can learn a thing or too about losing games instead of treading water...were the Kings supposed to try to win more games to what benefit toward the end of the season. As I recall they landed D Cousins with that draft, someone who the Rockets have targted in the past.
He does things that other guys on the Rockets don't do, true, but he doesn't really do them that well (at least, not since his rookie year) and he does them at the expense of a lot of other things, that's why people are saying he's not a very attractive option.
I wasn't selling him short by calling him a better/more talent player than any Rocket on this team. He has his faults but talent and production aren't any of them.
Because I value a team which well, plays like a team as opposed to a team which does "development" by just letting a guy play Iverson ball. Maybe the Rockets would have been better off this season just letting Terrence Williams handle the ball and doing what he liked and leading us to a 20 win season, but I'm not going to be proud of that. Because those three won't work well together at all. There's the matter of shooting - none of those three are really good 3 point shooters, and Evans is terrible at it. Heck, Evans can't play off ball at all, which is his huge problem. This isn't 2K. Don't act like if you have 3 dudes with a rating of 80, everything will be fine regardless of their skillset.
I agree with you. There are things that he does really well and there are things that he doesn't do very well or at the expense of a lot of other things but (keyword being but) the Rockets have players that can do a lot of the things that he can't do very well so it's mix and match. I'm not saying he's the most attractive option but he's not an option that should be considered lightly considering the current makeup of this team and what he can bring to the table.
This statement is just based on hype and highlight reels. If Sacramento had a player better than anyone on the team why is it that they have a worse record than the Rox? Evans is a cancer, and he's totally ineffective on the court. He can't hit 3s, he's too short to do damage in the paint, he can't defend, he can't run plays...dude's like an absolute waste of space.
Who would be proud of a 20 win season..prolly no one...who's proud regarding this season? prolly no one..same Sh** different year...off topic whos to say Iverson ball didnt even work...that got them to the finals.. Why not give it a shot? 3 pt Shooting? we had one of the best shooters in Kmart and where did that get us... we still have Bud...or you can go out and get ala Steven Novak types for cheap if your worried about three pt shooting...that lineup can win other ways...fast and athletic...transition and penetration....
I agree. Thorton is a much better player, Tyreke is pretty one-dimensional and needs the ball to be effective.
How about a bunch players on a team who don't work well together and a Coach fired who lost his team...bad analogy...teams with worse records with a better player...K Love, D Williams, L Aldridge (arguably)
No way. You build a team with a frontcourt star, not a machine gunning guard. It takes an extremely special talent to go somewhere like that. Even Kobe and Wade couldn't take their team anywhere without star help in the frontcourt.
This move would not mean were building around him. Yea if he made 13 million million plus that might make him a centerpiece/foundation player. The guy makes 5 million a year...Front court star... sure that would be nice ..but how many of those are around these days?
Rep your way. As soon as one of these high potential guys come up people turn up their noses at it. Go back to the Cousins threads and see. Lots of people "Oh his attitude. He's not that good." Blah blah blah. Cousins turned out once he got his mental on the right track proved he's better than anyone on our team and he's like what 21-22? I would trade Scola straight up for Evans and that makes sense. Kings get some veteran leadership and get to pair Cousins with Scola... People get too caught up in efficiency nowadays especially people here who think %s are everything. That's why you get a player like Martin whose %s always look great....until the 4th qtr comes around. Rockets need high-ceiling players, Reke is one of them and no one can deny that. If he wasn't then he wouldn't have went top 5 in the draft. Rockets need to take these type of risks now, people are trying to hold onto a mediocre team? Why? Time to make changes and if a young guy with lots of potential comes along you take him. Stop comparing him to T-Will. T-will was never the prospect Evans was.
The thing is although people doubted Randolph's mental game he was still regarded as a highly skilled offensive player. I question Tyreke's skills because he's so reliant on having the ball in his hands for 16 seconds of the shot clock while his teammates ball-watch.
Zach Randolph was 29 years old before the Grizz caught lightning in a bottle with him and in just his first year of a new 4-year $66 million contract, it is still not clear whether or not that was money well spent. If you want to GAMBLE on Tyreke being the next Randolph, well go ahead and trade some assets for him, then re-sign him at about $50 over the next 4-5 years and just see if he turns in to the next Zach Randolph. That is a stupid gamble. Especially in light of the fact that it took Zach until age 29 to figure anything out and now that he has allegedly figured it out, he's on the first year of a contract paying him over $15 million per season...and he's already broken down for most of this season. Who is to say what the next 3 seasons hold for the Grizz on this deal? At this point in his career, Tyreke is not worth trading for and he's not worth signing for more than about $3 mill per season. Let somebody else overpay and be stuck with all his b.s. and the risk that they can make him better.
Except if you get him now you are not overpaying him. You get him for one year then he becomes a RFA. Which then you are likely to still not be overpaying him. You get an entire year to evaluate him. If you don't like what you see you let him go. Simple. Sure you lose Scola or whatever you gave up. So what? Are we trying to rebuild or are we trying to desperately cling to being mediocre? It's not a gamble at all... To say it was a gamble is to say we risk breaking up a good team...we don't. If it works out you get a all-star to superstar player. If it doesn't work out you let him hit FA and go looking for the next high ceiling guy. Maybe your team has become worse because of it but again the team was never really that good to begin with...
