Yao has played 30 minutes or more in 7 games so far this season. His averages in those 7 games:

    20.3 points
    13.4 rebounds
    2.43 blocks
    2 assists

It's a little unfair, to be sure, as Yao tends to play more minutes when he's playing well. If he were left in during those games when he's struggling, the averages would probably come down.

Still, I'm wondering what Rudy is going to do about this. He obviously would like Yao to get as much PT as possible, but there's the very real possibility that when he hits the rookie wall, he's going to slam into it hard. This guy hasn't had a decent break in quite a while, what with his Chinese national team duties and all.

So, if you're Rudy, do you give him the 35 minutes or so the Rockets need from him? Or do you give him 25-30 and hope he doesn't burn out?

His minutes are fine for the time being. What he needs are more touches.

Lets not get too childish or stupid about this! Yao Ming should play less minutes, so that he can be protected from over exhaustion and ill health. He needs more touches when he is in the Game. He needs much more defensive support from the Power Forward and Small Forward,he cant do it all in the paint otherwise for a very tired rookie, the 'Wall' might be just arround the corner! We and Rudy are expecting too much from Yao Ming in his first season, I wish it all could come without all the pressures and at a slower pace. I read continual reports from China, where he is complaining about how tired he is.

yao ming's minutes are fine for the time being. he needs to take more shots, francis needs to take better ones, and moochie needs to never play basketball again.
