Rockets trade future and potential all-star for 38year old PG and worthless pick. Ah, you mean to get us a championship this year with our monster roster? Nash is the missing piece, right? Wait....no, it just doesn't make sense.
That's actually one of the better trades in this thread. Has anyone checked if the salaries make it possible?
Granger/Ellis/K-Mart Everybody wins. 3 teams, 3 players. to WARRIORS: Kevin Martin to PACERS: Monte Ellis to ROCKETS: Danny Granger Salaries match. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=84xrepe
Rockets receive: Nash + Gortat Suns receive: Lowry + Patterson + Thabeet + Flynn + NY 1R pick This is as much as a win now as it is a future looking move. It establishes a future Rockets frontcourt of Donuts PF and Gortat C.
While not speaking to the Nash for Lowry swap exactly; the Suns 2nd round pick would actually be a pretty nice pick considering their record this year. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we see teams (I guess read reports) valuing high 2nd round picks more than late 1st round picks because of guaranteed money?
1. Rockets are middling this year anyway, and will likely get the #8th seed or just miss the playoffs. Might as well get Nash who is playing really, really well right now, and try to do better this year. 2. Everyone here seems to be overvaluing Lowry. He is a very good PG, and at times an All-Star level PG. However, "at-times". Lowry's lows are lower than the best PG's low's and his highs have not been that high. 3. What is the plan for the Rockets? a. If it is to go for it now, he is your best trading chip to get a true difference maker. If Scola & Martin can barely get the Rocket's Gasol, what do really think it will take to get a true game changer? Even if we get that player are the legit starters/bench to make run with them before they break down? b. If it is plan for the future, that future is at least 3 years away to be a true contender. Lowry is FA in 3 years. Let's say he is an all-star the next 2 years. Think the Rockets will be able to sign him? Think he will want to stay with the Rockets? 4. With Nash, the Sun's have the 10th pick in each round right now. Lowry is good, but he is not playing like Nash is. That pick will fall. Two picks between 35 & 45 seem like good trading chips with the Knicks pick in a deep draft to move up. If you want you could even turn this into a 1st round pick, top 10 protection for 2 years but I wouldn't see the Suns taking that. 5. Everyone keeps saying Morey will go for Howard & Deron Williams. get those two together and they will have it made. Well, now you actually have the starting PG spot available for DWill, and enough cap room to sign both, plus resign CLee & potentially Dragic.
http://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/6024511 Houston Trade: Kevin Martin, Dragic, Thabeet, Flynn, and Jordan Hill. Utah Trades: Al Jefferson, Devin Harris. Utah lineup: Dragic/Cj Miles Martin/Bell Hayward Milsap/hill Favors/kantor Houston Lineup: Lowery/harris Lee/Budinger could play some minutes at the 2 Budinger/Morris/Parsons Scola/Patterson Al jefferson/Dalembert Utah gets a major upgrade at the SG position, get rid of Harris who have been terrible. And most importantly this would allow them to give Favors and Kanter the minutes they need to develop. Houston gets a good center (worked well with McHale in the past), Harris is not great but his contract is short. This would also allow Budinger to start since there won't be the huge defensive problem with Martin and Bud playing at the same time.
We've talked about getting Iggy before, but I'm starting to wonder if the Sixers would rather be buyers than make a lateral move. What would it take to get Evan Turner? The Sixers are getting good guard and wing play all around and Turner's minutes have been dropping. The Sixers' weakest point is probably PF play, where they're still paying Elton Brand superstar money for average production. Brand's horrible contract runs through next year at $18M compared to Scola's $9M. Taking back that salary would be a big price to pay, effectively destroying our cap space for the offseason. But maybe it would be worth it for Evan Turner. What say you? Luis Scola and expiring '09ers for Evan Turner and Elton Brand?
I like Turner, but it depends on who we could target in the 2013 offseason with Brand, Martin, and Dalembert all coming off the books. 2012-13 roster with that trade (actual contracts) Lowry Martin/ llull Parsons/ Bud/ Morris Patterson/ Brand Dalembert/ Dmo
Turner is looking more like a bust every day. 24 years old and hasn't broke out yet. Shooting percentages are pedestrian to poor. His game at OSU was based on attacking and finishing. Haven't seen it in the NBA. I believe he may be out-athleticized and if so, then he's just another bench warmer for his career, since he's not an outstanding shooter or passer when he can't drive and finish.
Ummmm, Elton Brand is a distinct possibility if it turns out that Orlando doesn't trade Dwight but waits it out and Dwight agrees to stay there one more year. If Dwight gives Orlando a 1-year commitment, I would not be surprised if Morey approached Philly about Dally and Scola for Brand this offseason.
