Given the success that young/first time guys like the Harbaugh's, Sean Payton, Mccarthy, Tomlin have had ... and the lack of ultimate success that Norv Turner, Chan Gailey, Shanahan and Wade have had in multiple stints ... I don't know why anyone would hire a retread head coach.

Hell even Munchak has done a good job with a team that nobody expected much from.

So if money talks, then pay the man and give him some token head coach in waiting title like they did with Garrett. I can't see with all the success he's having here, he'd want to up and leave. It's not like he's a fresh face on the NFL scene.

Are there a lot of instances of head coaches who turn to coordinators who turn back to head coaches? Not to slight Wade, but what teams out there would want to hire him after the way he left Dallas?

    LOL, pancakes.

First of all, there's only a handful of coaching spots available every offseason.

Secondly, a lot of these teams will try for studs like Cowher, Gruden, etc. or a young up-and-comer.

Third, being a good coordinator does not guarantee a head coaching job. Guys who previously failed at head coaching spots (Dom Capers) aren't automatically in high demand.

There will be at least 5 spots open, some estimate it at up to 9. I don't think Cowher or Gruden are in the mix for any of them because they don't want to be.

He's already the highest paid DC in the league. I guess there are OC's making more though.

Perfect of example of what I mean:

Dolphins want either a star coach (Cowher, Gruden, Fisher, Billick) or a "young Don Shula." And that's star HEAD coach. Not star coordinator.

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...convinced-bill-cowher-will-stay-off-sideline/

The Dolphins are sending mixed messages.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said Monday he’s looking for the next “young Don Shula.” He’s also retaining his G.M. Jeff Ireland and said Ireland will help pick the next coach.

That indicates the Dolphins are more likely to go after a younger coach not seeking personnel power.

Privately, Ross seems to be sending a different message. An “associate of Ross” told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald that Ross will go after star coaches, starting with Bill Cowher.

That doesn't really mean much. Whomever they choose would have probably been looked at seriously be other teams with a need, who hires them doesn't matter. There are more openings, than there are truly successful candidates for. Wade is going to be at the top of the short list for at least a few of the teams I'm sure.

I don't think he will be. He's a retread when there are many retreads out there with much better head coaching resumes.

i honestly get the feeling that pancakes doesn't even like the Texans nor Houston for that matter (clearly loves our restaurants, though). he takes every opportunity to **** on them and the fans. i mean, not even a day after we clinch our first ever division title and he's asking the coach what happens when his DC bolts?

*****ing move to nashville already you twit.

Well, we better hope that Vance Joseph was taking notes of Wade's scheme and tendencies just in case he is promoted to D-Coordinator.

Gary is probably looking through his middle school yearbook trying to figure which one of his friends is next in line for the gig

Wade is 64 years old, coaching with a guy he has history with, in a city he has history with, and his dad is a stone's throw away in pasadena. It attracts 99% less media, stress, scrutiny, embarassment, etc. than the HC gig in Dallas, and he's damn good at it. Sounds like a dream job to coast into retirement as a hero doesn't it?

Pancakes is just being a HOF level d*ck and raining on the parade of the best Monday in Texans history.

That sucks, I wonder if he's intrigued with trying to turn around another bad defense. If not, both Chiefs and Dolphins already have good 34 defenses to build with.

He can want to be HC all he wants, that does mean other teams want him as HC.

It seems as though young first-time head coaches have been having a lot more success lately than experienced ones looking for a new gig.

I'd be surprised if a team gave a serious offer to Phillips, considering he's only had modest success as a HC.

This Mcclain guy is getting on my nerves. Pretty obv he just wants to get everyone all riled up because he can. He keeps on bringing it up on radio interviews, in the press conference with Kubiak..sounds like he's slobbering all over a cheesburger every time he talks
