I like how we are saved by the owners. Honestly we are the only team that got screwed in this deal, why r people complaining
Um... surely Stern understands free agency isn't going away?? It's not that he doesn't want them to dictate where they're going, he doesn't want them to do so, AND still be paid as they should. Look, I was all in favor of the owners during the summer, and am in favor of not allowing the formation of superteams.... BUT this seems ridiculous. As someone else mentioned, if you didn't want this to happen, put it in the CBA. This is a clear example of one team and it's players being treated uniquely given that they are owned by the NBA. If I'm a fan of the Hornets, I'm hoping for contraction at this point. Either put an independent GM in there and have him follow the rules (as they have), or contract the team.
BREAKING NEWS: Chris Paul trade to LA is off http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2011/12/08/trade-rumors-flying-at-wicked-clip/?ls=iref:nbahpt1
Can someone explain why ESPN is reporting that CP3 is going to talk about the trade issues with the players union?
You're a crazy homer if you think you could trade Scola straight up for Gasol. And saying Gasol is over the hill when he's younger (by a few months) than Scola is just plain stupid. I understand the position of feeling that Scola+Martin+Dragic+picks was too much, though I think a lot of it had to do with clearing cap room and signing Nene. But those other points are so far off base it's not even funny.
Probably because it puts him and other Hornets players in the unique position of being the only players who other teams not involved in a trade can veto from being traded. Any other team in the league other than the Hornets and that trade goes thru, and this probably is going to be frowned upon by the player's union. And honestly the Hornets are pretty unlikely to get a better offer than what they were going to get here.
anyone want to bet mark cuban was the first one on the phone giving stern an ear full. hes already said many times how much garbage it is that the nba owns the hornets.
Good. This was a lousy deal on its face, and only would've been a good deal if it was accompanied by another deal that made up for what we would have lost in Martin, Scola and Dragic. Since we don't know what else was in the works, fans should only be relieved that this didn't happen.
Could CP3 really make a difference though? And how would convincing the players union change the mind of David Stern? Wasn't it the owners that wanted this vetoed? Not the players?
