presuming you have at least 4 gb of RAM, you ought to be good to go.

did you post the gfx card and processor just to taunt everyone? :p

That's only 2 components. But, ya. 570GTX is a good card. I have 2 of the evga 570GTX SC's in SLI.

Based on those 2 parts, I'd say the rest is good to go. Need Dx11 for BF3 though, so make sure it's not XP or something.

    Mine:

    I7 860 @ 3.3 (not oc'd much)
    8GB Gskill ddr3 2000
    2x570GTX SC
    p55 evga SLI board

Your system sounds fine, just have at least 4 gbs of ram.

Haha, no sorry, I just got the GFX card coming in!

Do you think I can run BF3 and other high impact games with no lag on pretty good (high/medium settings)?

I'd say you definitely ought to be able to run it on medium with that CPU/GFX card combo. Not too sure about high settings (you could give it a whirl at any rate). That's a pretty legit dual-threat right there.

On your quad-core, what's the model # after the Core 2 Extreme? (QX6000, etc). They all look good to me, but just curious.

You should be fine with medium / high mixed.

Not Ultra though, if you don't want lag spikes.

thanks to both of you, yes I have 4 gb of ram too!

I'm just getting it in, I've only played counter-strike as a computer game since my computer has been horrible this last decade..

Finally upgrading and hopefully I can play the top class shooting/pc games.

    Any suggestions for games?

It starts out pretty good, until you lose your starting and back-up quarterbacks. Then you're pulling out guys with like a 55 Madden rating, and just hoping you can pull out the season.

(Do they still have Madden for PC?)

You are going to bottleneck on some games if you try to play on high settings. Your graphics card is great but your cpu will hold you back, especially on cpu intensive games.

Edit: It is def an odd cpu/gpu combination, your gpu will not be fully utilize.

Honestly, the best performing processor is still the Intel Core i7. I'm running an AMD Phenom II X6 and while it's great, it still doesn't beat the performance of the i7. I'll probably be switching to Intel later on.

As for Skyrim at the moment, performance is pretty spotty even with a higher end machine. It's very CPU limited because for whatever reason the developers coded it to only utilize two threads maximum. In Skyrim, some of the graphical rendering is actually done on the CPU rather than the GPU. Because of this, when there are some intensive scenes (cities mostly), your CPU will hit the maximum with those two threads and your GPU usage (and overall game performance) goes down the drain since the CPU can't send data for your GPU to crunch.

    Build your own.

Btw, there's not much glory to Skyrim. It's only a dx9 game isn't it? Lots of crappy textures. I really don't have any issue playing the game, although it feels that its bugs make it a bit of a performance let down every now and then.
