I recently saw Insidious. It was scary and very well done. I hardly ever am really scared by movies, but this one did a pretty good job. It's more like ring than Friday the XIII. It was great.
A few more good ones: 28 Days Later Insidious The Others What Lies Beneath IT Drag me to Hell Let the Right One In
Agree with most mentioned, especially Exorcist and Omen. Some notable missing: Near Dark Night of the Living Dead (original) Nightmare on Elm Street (1st one) Suspiria Hell Raiser Carrie
Salem's Lot- the vampires in this old movie still freak me out Poltergeist 2- let me in! Your in daangeer! Still creepy... Hmmm... There must be a few more oldies we haven't mentioned
School daze scared the eff outta me. I was 18 years old when it came out and I thought I was going to a comedy and at the end of the film a bunch of people shouting at me. I was like what the eff did I just saw?
Uh yeah it was in the first post. But ok. As for Paranormal Activity - The first one was eh, I jumped a couple of times, but the last five minutes actually scared me. The second one sucked. Terribly. HOWEVER I do believe i saw an edited version (Netflix) that wasn't as scary.. I did also see a similar movie called Paranormal Entity on netflix at that time, it was pretty much the exact same thing, except it was actually a bit more scary. Paranormal Activity 3 looks like it's scary, but besides that it actually looks interesting to me to see how the whole thing started. Plan on seeing in theaters soon.
Forgot about the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, that is one ****ing creepy ass movie. Remake isn't that bad either to be honest. And lets not forget. Spoiler
Just to go outside the box here... Videodrome. That movie really freaked me out when it was released (I was a teenager).
anyone see the french movie martyrs? first half was the only scary part. 2nd half more gruesome and messed up rather than scary.
Not really scary but a film that kind of scarred me for life was the Japanese film Audition. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audition_(film)
I was 12 when I saw the ring and thought it was scary at the time... the exorcist? wow I don't understand how people call that movie scary at all... The descent freaked me out the first time I saw it, and that may have been due to the atmostphere.
