That's not even close to a record. I think Wilt Chamberlain AVERAGED 47 shot attempts one season...

17 for 47 is pretty bad though. That's heading into Iverson land. I did catch the third quarter of that game, though. What he was doing was just so beautiful to watch. One of the best things about sports is watching a guy that just can't miss in a basketball game...

First, maybe someone has already compared Kobe with Francis, not in terms of talent, but in terms of "carrying the team." Are the losses their fault? Passing too much? Shooting too much? Man, last night's numbers really cast him into the selfish mold. 47 shots, 4 assists, 5 TO.

Second, last night's game confirms what I've always thought. Kobe Bryant is a streaky shooter. He scored 17 pts in the 3rd and then missed 10 straight in the 4th. This is actually the pattern of his game. He often shoots poorly in stretches and then gets on fires in other. People just remember how he good he is when he is hot (ditto Iverson), especially if it happens in the 4th Q, and call him clutch. Now his streakiness is exposed by the lack of talent surrounding him.

They did a graphic on this. MJ and someone else (Kareem?) had taken 49 shots in a game before. Someone had taken 48.

But only 17 out of 47 is pretty bad.

Wilt shot the ball 63 times in one game and averaged 39.5 shots per game in 61-62. I'm sure he's shot more than 47 times on multiple ocassions

    The Stilt's career stats

    The 100 point game

1961/62 is easily the greatest individual season in NBA history. Mind boggling when you really look at it. 50.4 points per game on 50% shooting. His .506 shooting percentage that season was actually the second LOWEST of his career, better only than his rookie year (the only season he EVER shot under 50%). Most players these days only dream of shooting 50% for one season, let a alone an entire career. He also averaged 25.7 rebounds per game, leading the league, and he played EVERY SINGLE MINUTE, including overtime, of every game he was in that season, not fouling out once.

Sorry to go on a Wilt rant, but to think about how dominating he was that season, it's just amazing...

He also put up those career numbers while in the process of banging 25,000 women, so it's even more amazing that he had that much stamina to begin with! :)

It must have been very boring being Wilt's teammates. And fans for that matter.
