PHX did that every year during the SSOL heyday lol. Gave away Rajon Rondo, Luol Deng+ a ton of other guys I don't remember. Gotta say I really like this new Cavs management+ownership. I never really thought much of the Cavs outside of Lebron, their GM was so inept it was kinda' sad. But now that they have new management and a new coach seems like they're headed in the right direction. Their owner's like Mark Cuban, except instead of being stupid and overpaying for role players he's being smart and overpaying for Draft picks. If they could get 3 picks in the top 10 it would be great for them. Outside of Derrick Williams, Kanter and Biyombo I don't see any other boom-or-bust draftees in the top 10. They might not get any superstars but they'll get three really solid players out of this draft if they pull this off. And how about having your own big three straight out of the draft? What if Hakeem, Jordan and Drexler all played together? lol

After reading that article, I felt like I just read some Bible verses with a bunch of "begats", i.e., Hunh?
This could also be used as an opportunity for the Rockets to pull off a trade for Josh Smith. The Hawks want to shed salary and get a 1st round pick in any deal. So the Rockets could make the trade with the Bucks for the #10 and send that to the Cavs. The Cavs would then use the exception to take back Marvin Williams from the Hawks and the Rockets could use a combination of players and their 14th pick to get Josh Smith. Or if the Rockets luck out and trade for Minnesota's # 2 they could probably get the Cavs to take Marvin Williams by swapping the #2 with the Cavs #4 pick. This would allow the Rockets to get Josh Smith without eating up their cap space to do it and the Hawks would shed at least $7.5M off their salary cap for next year. Which is a better deal than the one that Orlando is trying to put together with the team option on Andre Miller's contract.
I think Cavs like a couple of thoughts: No one guy in this draft will save a franchise. As mentioned, if each of these guys is running a 33% bust rate, grabbing 3 of them should help guarantee you come away with at least 1 or 2 semi-stars. A trio lets you declare the start of a new era to your fanbase. Enter the team that gave away its best player (in its short franchise history?) to cut down payroll. The financial pressures on the Kings, Bobcats, Hornets, etc aren't being reported on nearly enough.
The deal would be something like 4th for 9th+19th with other stuff. So, it's not an additonal pick for the Cavs, but rather a trade-back. My guess is if the Cavs sees a risk of losing Valanciunas by moving back, they'll just select Valanciunas at 4th. They are simply trying to see if they can squeez an extra pick out of somebody and still get the guy.
