Game of Thrones Reviews Here are the critic reviews/discussions that I have seen released so far from critics who received screener copies of the first 6 episodes: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/game-thrones-tv-review-174120 http://www.televisionaryblog.com/2011/04/where-wolves-prey-advance-review-of.html http://cultural-learnings.com/2011/04/03/a-televisual-love-letter-reveling-in-hbos-game-of-thrones/ http://tv.ign.com/articles/116/1160072p1.html http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/b23...i__Crazies__Please_Submit_Your_Questions.html http://winter-is-coming.net/2011/04/first-impressions-of-game-of-thrones/#comments http://www.denofgeek.com/television/833989/game_of_thrones_episode_1_spoilerfree_review.html http://blog.zap2it.com/kate_ohare/2011/04/todays-brew-game-of-thrones----before-after-part-2.html http://www.westeros.org/GoT/Features/Entry/4985/
Another reviewer who is a reader of the books, that watched the first 2 episodes with his non-reader room mate and gives both of their initial impressions: http://www.ology.com/technology/5-observations-early-game-thrones-episodes
If there was, they would have surfaced by now. Way too big of a following for that to be kept under wraps...
Review for the first episode "Winter is Coming" is up on IGN now: http://tv.ign.com/articles/116/1160215p1.html
..had no idea what Game of Thrones was until I read the 17 pages in this thread... now I'm sufficiently hyped. I don't think this is going to pick up mainstream popularity though. I read that HBO's 15 min. preview only drew 700,000 viewers (which is mediocre by HBO standards)... plus some of the reviews by the non-geek critics were not so good. Anyways, as long as it has a solid niche following, HBO should run it for awhile (i.e., like The Wire).
Just finished up watching most of the On Demand stuff HBO's released on Game of Thrones... I'm stoked. Really looking forward to it. If the HBO's general audience gives it half a chance, I think they'll get drawn in. The characters and the story are epic.
I wouldn't worry about the numbers on the preview. It was barely promoted and didn't even show up on the TV guide for DVR'ing until the day of. Besides several times that number have seen it since online. International demand for the show is also the highest ever for any HBO show: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/hbo-top-1-billion-international-176907 It will be a free HBO weekend for the premiere for most cable/dish providers in the US I have heard.
Just got my tickets to the advance screening tomorrow night! I'll have my review written for Gunaxin Wednesday afternoon. probably. I cannot describe my enthusiasm!
Very smart move by HBO, people that might be instinctively averse to fantasy will tune in because it's a free preview. If the final "things I do for love" scene shocks viewers like we hope it will, people will be intrigued enough to subscribe.
