Getting those two 1st round picks is a certain indication to rebuilding not to mention a good use for possible trades.
I'm also for a B- lets hope Thabeet turns into something valuable, the org puts some time into his development I know Dragic will contribute right away...I just wish he would get 30+ min per game to see what his capable of bringing to the team
Nice. I think that is Morey's problem. He loves to shop in the flea market while the top teams shop at the Galleria. The results are what they are.
i give dm an A because he did all he could do without being taken advantage of. He never played the role as the desperation gm and we have a couple of 1st round draft picks incuding Thabeet which was the second overall pick.
Don't sweat it, for all we know Morey is working to get Kwame in a trade during the off season. This cheapskate seems to want to outdo Jerry "Crumbs" Krause by looking first and foremost at the cheap price of players who, of course, almost always turn out to be busts. Morey is also enamored with low draft picks so that he can turn them into assets to trade for, you guessed it, low draft picks. I hope he proves me wrong but his pattern in the past three years does not give me much confidence. It is starting to turn out that being a math whiz does not translate into a sound basketball GM. I think the Rockets have to start relying more on basketball people rather than a statistician or else wallow in mediocrity and a constant merry go round of players.
Wasn't Morey bragging that the Rockets are one among only a handful of teams willing to absorb salary?
The direction is we are def going young. Dragic and Thabeet are young players. Wallace, Perkins, Mohammed all veterans
So after letting it pass and having a good nights rest I would like to change my stance a bit on the trades that went down. In regards to Brooks: Morey in the presser hit it right on the head, and his logic was purely sound, AB is about to get paid. Unless we want to have the most overpaid pg combo in the NBA something had to give. AB knew that, Kyle knew that, everyone knew it. With AB's leaving the bench early event, and the fact he has been struggling, Morey knew there was no point in keeping him to let him balk later. Dragic is nice, but I think he probably won't live up to expectations. The fact that Ish was not a part of this deal (like I previously thought he was) also solidified this deal for me. I like the move. It's a good pickup for both teams. PHX gets a competent and qualified successor to Nash (if AB chooses to stay), we get younger and more draft options. However, there's no way to sugar coat it, I still hate the Battier/Thabeet deal. I'm glad Battier might have a chance at the playoffs this year, and I really hope he does come back in the offseason, but even with a plethora of mitigating factors the deal still leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Mind you, I didn't like this trade before I knew Ish was involved with it. Now knowing that we sent Battier AND Ish I really don't like it. If Thabeet turns out to be a big pickup, then great, I will gladly eat my words. With this regrade I give Morey a B-/C+.
was listenting to DM this morning and I admit Im also changing my vote 1 up better. was so pissed on Ish departure. I thought he was a keeper. That's the only thing that is not making sense to me now.
Morey has made the best possible moves, given the circumstances, at every juncture of his career. Save for the missed Stoudamire trade. I give him an A-, but really, his grade is "Incomplete", because he will ultimately be judged on the performance of the 2012-2015 Rockets moreso than he will be for the 2008-2011 Rockets.
To be honest, as fans, we expect those splashy moves that instantaneously propels us into contenders, but we know that the likelihood of that was extremely low. We positioned ourselves extremely well to capitalize on these situations, but they just didn't materialize. There were two all stars traded with clearly an agenda in mind and a few solid players available, but none of which would put us into a key position. Gerald Wallace/Perkins/Jeff Green are nice players, but none of which we "need" going forward. In fact, Perkins was also due for a huge pay raise at the end of this year or next, so we would of then also had to make a decision if we were going to pay him even if we had a remote chance of getting him. I think people often forget that how complicated managing a team is, between juggling the team's potential along with the financial aspects of it. Even if Morey isn't the best in the business (which I don't think he is far from being...), he has done a massive job cleaning up the team/books for a small market team with little or no appeal and at the same time kept us competitive. The only mistake I think we made was not making that decision to rebuild or to go all in. Most people want to rebuild by tanking, but that fosters such bad habits and a losing mentality that most teams can't recover from - just look at all those mediocre teams that have stayed mediocre for so long. I thought the AB trade was a sound one, along with the fact we got a first round pick out of a rapidly depreciating asset in Shane and a shot at a recently #2 pick. People give up on Morey too easily, simply because of their unrealistic expectations. For a rookie GM he has done exceptionally well in my eyes. He's right about those franchise changing scenarios... it's all about chance and I like our chances as good as any given the cards that we've been dealt. Patience is the key.
To me, he still a solid, learning on the job gm. Unlike others, i think he did well yesterday given the circumstances. Many are disappointed because they believed the twitter and the press conferences about how valuable the assets were. I never thought the rockets had any high value players because they dont have high ceiling guys. He removed himself from the brooks bidding this summer and got a 1st rd pick and thats good. He got a former high pick and a 1st for shane which is also good. The Rockets now have a direction after 2 years and thats a great thing. They also are still in the mix for 2012 which is also a great thing. Williams and Howard should be the targets and if the magic decide to get nervous about Howard leaving, the rockets have alot of picks to offer up. Next summer if he opts out, the rockets should have enough money to offer max to both if they trade scola this summer and let patterson take over at the 4.Lowry is still a placeholder and they need to upgrade the 3 spot, but I like the direction.
Everything with him is just ok or solid but not great or bad. So he cant get more than C from me. Hoenstly his whole plan has been unfinished so thats an incomplete grade still. Incompletes are not grades because they arent finished. So he has no grade yet. If he keeps having no complete grades? He will end getting an F.
I think he should wear this shirt <a href="http://media.photobucket.com/image/miz awesome/mattandthat/Wrestling logos/helloimawesome.png?o=34" target="_blank"><img src="http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/ad115/mattandthat/Wrestling%20logos/helloimawesome.png" border="0"></a>
Wow, it still amazes me to see how many of you praise morey for mediocrity. Yall rate him way too high. Morey all along has been saying that he wants to use his assets for a star player. Well guess what, that sure as hell didnt happen. Instead, he trades away our leader for a bust center!! He then trades our scoring pg for a backup pg who is just decent. These werent even lateral moves!! Yet throughout all this, some people on here still treat Morey as a god. Yay!!!! Woo hoo!! Morey just stockpiled more assets!! Yes!! More assets!! Newsflash! Nobody wanted to trade with Houston for their "assets". And we sure as hell arent winning anything with these "assets". Maybe if Morey treated players as actual players instead of "assets", star players might wanna come here!!
so let's say battier and aaron leaves in the offseason. What happens then? What are the chances of them resigning in Houston.
