I don't think they gave up Landry Fields. Guy is a beast. Gallo and Felton for Melo and Billups in a nutshell
A healthy Yao-TMac combo was present for a few years. Plus they had JVG/Thibadeou coaching them. And did jack squat. You still need role players to round out the roster. Not to mention they're still soft in the middle, especially given Mike 'Antonie's tendencies to not care for that area.
Thank goodness this saga is over. Obviously I don't like the fact that he ended up in New York, but I'm glad that we can put all the speculation to rest.
NY is the biggest market and now they have 2 superstars. Role players are going to want to play there and will probably be willing to take less (endorsement deals, national TV exposure). New CBA or no new CBA, they will be competitive in years to come.
Wilson Chandler counts for something, doesn't he? Good pickup for the Nuggets to plug in at SF. They should keep Gallo and trade Felton (assuming they can get good value).
John Hollinger's take on adding a 3rd star in '12: It's not clear how the situation gets better down the road. New York has its eye on one of the 2012 free-agent trinity -- Dwight Howard, Chris Paul or Deron Williams -- riding in to form a power trio with Stoudemire and Anthony. But if New York does the current deal, it would have no trade assets left to wrangle another swap a year from now. Since it's highly questionable that New York can create sufficient cap space under the new CBA rules, it seems the Knicks would have to fill in the gaps with lesser pieces. http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/insider/columns/story?columnist=hollinger_john&page=PERDiem-110221 Worse case for NY is a hard cap. $40 Million in salary tied up for two guys and no exceptions to use to fill out the roster. Even a reduced cap and few exceptions is going to make it tough to put any additional talent around those two. It doesn't appear that they'll have the cap space to outright sign a FA so they'd have to trade. What assets do they have left to trade?
So I know predict that the Knicks sign the following players from the NBADL: Garrett Temple Sean Williams Courtney Sims/Jeff Adrien Marcus Landry
Nuggets may send pieces to Nets and Houston in separate deal.. Nets like Danillo and Chandler... Nuggets could get additional picks. 1 minute ago http://hoopshype.com/twitter_media.html
Dallas series was rigged. Would have made some noise that season. People always forget that Juwan Howard would have been a huge upgrade over Ryan Bowen at PF.
I think the knicks got robbed in this deal. Amare nor anthony plays D, and the nuggets come out of this with quite a potent and balanced line up. Someone earlier said they gave up the farm....I couldnt agree more. I think this helps the knicks sell more tickets, but in the end they have a much worse team. They will score 100, good opponents will score 120
Taking less money in New York? The price of living there is already inflated, who would honestly want to take a price cut there.
