I would prefer to trade Shane now. We need a better SF down the line,C-Bud is pretty bad too. If that's not possible,he shouldn't be offered anything more than what Brad Miller is getting now.

It's true, but other players can bring veteran experience and still fit in the future.
Iggy, would be a very good replacement for Shane. He does the little things to help his team win.

If one of the contender's offer him the MLE, than all I have to say is...

    Good Bye Mr. Battier

Same thing for Chuck if he gets offered the MLE by a contender...

No deals for any player until the new CBA is hashed out. Its pretty simple.

By then, there may not even be such a thing as the MLE, so all this chatter about how much to pay him is pretty much irrelevant until the structure of the new cap is figured out.

I would want to sign Battier to a 3 year contract for 9 million as a player/assistant coach and groom him to take over as a full time assistant coach by the end of his contract.

Some way to keep him in this organization after his playing days are done.

You need flexibility to get a star before you start overpaying for roleplayers.

sorry Shane, you're probably worth the MLE to a contender but not to a starless team like us.

And with the new CBA coming, overpaying for anyone when we aren't even a playoff team is foolish.

I'm really surprised there hasn't been a "trade battier" thread lately...

I can't tell if battier would go for a smaller contract just to stay or if he'll chase a bigger deal.....i think they'll definitely consider an extension though, if he's not traded.

Offer him the veterans minimum, $1 mil under current CBA me thinks. I think Shaq is playing for that.

If he says no, you thank him for his services and wish him well in future endeavors.

If Morey lets that happen without getting anything in return, he should be roasted on here. I can't see him doing that.

Don't see that happening. If he doesn't get traded this year, Morey won't pay to keep him here.

Why not? He hasn't been traded as of yet and he's actually improved his play recently. Why wouldn't morey want him back in a veteran role with all these young players, especially if we're going with 3 yrs for 9 mill? Cheaper than Miller and that's pretty reasonable at this point.

I don't think 3yrs/9mil is enough to keep him. Someone will offer more than that.

Hardcore reality. Daryl doesnt give a Damn about any of you guys because you may not be pertinent to assembling the championship team he envisions. If it affects your performance or attitude he is ok with that. If it lowers your value, he is prepared to deal with that, too. Perspective NBA Houstonians, please ignore. We are dealing with assets here, not people. Chess pieces...take it or leave it. *ugh*

    Edit:

This is in response to Morey in general, not just Battier. His handling of people leaves a LOT to be desired....
